Not in the first fight. Had him backing up all night.

I don’t need to reference older fights, fights where he was hydrating from 154 to the mid 170s. That was a different animal. The Canelo that we’ve seen recently is much improved in that department.

Kovalev needed a second wind tonight against a fighter whose activity level was 1/2 of what Canelo has been facing.

Canelo's body shots will be too much for Kovalev.

You got it 100%. Canelo is the main fighter of DAZN. No way he lose by decision.

recently...as in his last two fights? yes kov's stamina isn't stellar at this stage but canelo isn't a high volume pressure fighter himself and still manages to gas early. canelo's stamina is horrendous for his age.

Yes he will. Canelo ate plenty of Golovkin’s jabs. He will eat a lot more jabs from Kovalev. And those are more damaging than GGG’s, and come from a greater distance, so countering them will be that much harder.

Seems like the closer to the fight we get, more people are second thinking themselves and putting putting their money on Kovalev now.

Yes. They probably knew all along but couldn't help hating on Canelo. I made this thread in August.

I wish it was viewed like that by more people - too many think the fix is in and not really looking at how dangerous Kovalev can be, diminished or not. I am conflicted on it myself - really intriguing right if everything is on the up-and-up as they say. I have to temper my excitement about CAnelo fights even though he does make some good ones over the years.

And yeah, I think Kov has more improv and is more dynamic and athletic than G, not saying any better or worse...just different guys. Canelo has nice defense, but it's not tied to footwork. A lot of people envision Canelo being able to get inside on Sergei and taking him out via th ebody but it won't be that easy to get in imo.

And at a certain distance, Kov's ability to stop/start his punches is one of the best in the game - it's hard to get under his punches at a certain distance, he can punch dow. He'll start a shot, stop it, watch a guy go through a defense motion, then throw the punch at the end. I'm sure people see him do that...not exactly feint, more like pump faking his shots. But by restarting them, they become that much shorter. It opens him up, he gets square, and not very steady and he's paid for it in the past...but it's still a trait that has served him....allowing him to get over the top of a guy who is trying to stay behind a shoulder or change levels at the waist for defense because the timing gets throw off when he restarts a shorter punch. Really a fun trait to watch
