Kovalev also has been in full VADA testing the last 6 weeks, for the Yarde fight. Canelo's year of custom VADA testing expired months ago, he didn't sign back up for VADA at all. Michael Montero reported it, called VADA directly and got the info.

The sport of boxing is fixed. The fights in the ring aren't fixed, at least not too often that I can tell, but they are fixed at the network level, the promotional level, the commission level. Who has to be in drug testing and when. When the fights are scheduled. Who the ref and judges are. Where the fight is. What year the fight takes place. You control these 6 variables, you can control the outcome of 99% of fights, even vs otherwise superior opponents.

The Kovalev from tonight would have beaten Canelo, IMO. People are saying Canelo is better than Yarde, but Canelo is 5'8 and thick, Yarde is 6'0 and even thicker. I'm not saying Yarde would beat Canelo but it would be a war. If Kovalev goes 12 with this Yarde, he goes 12 with Canelo. And if he goes 12 he probably outpoints him.

But the Kovalev who fights Canelo on November 2nd is not going to be the Kovalev we saw tonight. It's how it's done. Gotta protect the cash cow.
Agree on the corruption, still not sure that will be enough for Canelo. It's the weight draining that concerns me most.

As it goes, I'd rather Kovalev had this war than a period of inactivity at 36.

    • I am Yarde`s fan now, fight was really good, but he has to do on stamina before taking his next big fight.

      • ... Most punches landed by a Kovalev Opponent:

        - Anthony Yarde - 132 in 11 rounds
        - Isaac Chilemba - 127 in 12 rounds
        - Andre Ward - 116 in 12 rounds...

        • Yeah, and haters now say Yarde should retire and that he is a bum, because he lost one fight.

Why only attach an asterisk to Canelo if he wins and not all dozens of other current so-called champions? Let's be consistent. Yes, I rather like the asterisk idea.
Oh, totally agree, it's not just for Canelo. Broner would be another that springs to mind. Munguia getting his belt at 154 against was it Vargas is another one.

I guess I'm thinking that it would be useful when looking at the legacy of boxers. Maybe an asterisk when they jump up to challenge and beat a dubious champion but exclamation marks when they jump up to challenge and beat feared and respected champs - in that case 2 exclamation marks for Ward jumping up to Kovalev and 1/2 asterisk for Andy Ruiz beating AJ.

I watched it on a poor stream, but even so I thought a lot of Yarde's punches fell short

Yarde "won" 3 rounds at most... and he was all in into the 7th and the 8th... Yarde fell short by some 10-15 seconds...

(and this is from a Kovalev "fan boy"...)

Canelo is going to beat on a damaged Kovalev who will probably be pissing blood 4 weeks before he gets in the ring with Canelo and everyone is going to be kissing Canelo's ass afterwards.

Also, Kovalev was in VADA testing the last 6 weeks, for the Yarde fight. Canelo is not currently in VADA at all.
Shut the fucc up punk! Canelo is enrolled in VADA 24/7.

                  • What I thought strange about this fight was that Kovalev never seemed to hit Yarde with a full power punch and Yarde was right in front of him the whole time. I mean Yarde was getting hit a lot but not by full power shots most of the time. If I was Kov I would have thrown more big shots.
