He was the Crusher, Im not knocking that. I'm saying, father time is undefeated and the effects of boxing are cumulative. Once a punch is landed, not even God can take it back. Sergey pulled a rabbit out of the hat last time out. How long can he do that? Alvarez was good, but not known as a puncher. Yarde is young, and nothing but a puncher. He's quick and explosive, that's a bad combo for the elderly.Comment

Although he's not quite the bulldozing "Krusher" of a few years ago, I still think Kovalev still has too much for Yarde to deal with at this point. Ironically I think Yarde would have had a better chance against the prime Kovalev - at least he would have had the 50/50 element of a firefight. Kovalev now seems to have accepted he no longer has he endurance to continuously march down and overpower younger opponents, he's falling back on the technical ability he learned during a typically long Eastern-European amateur career. Yarde never had that extended period of seasoning; I think he only had about a dozen amateur fights and his pro record does not have anyone above journeyman level on it.Comment

That's a good point. This could turn out to be a different fight than the shoot out everybody has been expecting, including me. You would have to go with Kovalev to win a boxing match against an inexperienced kid like Yarde. But at Krusher's age, nothing can be guaranteed.Although he's not quite the bulldozing "Krusher" of a few years ago, I still think Kovalev still has too much for Yarde to deal with at this point. This is his last fight against Travis Reeves and a typical Yarde performance. He's been outclassing and KO'ing domestic and good journeyman level opponents in his last few fights. Definitely time to step him up ... but this far?
Mmmm .. we'll see!
