That's a bit strong i'd say. If AJ beats Wilder and Fury he'd have a better resume than Lennox quite soon.

For some reason Lennox Lewis gets very overrated nowadays. I remember when he retired. He was considered a great heavyweight, but really mostly because Tyson and Holyfield aged before he got to them.

Nowadays it seems like Lewis is considered some super great heavyweight.

I understand it, but really looking at his resume it's not like he beat great heavyweights in their prime.

If you look at his overall resume, only an excellent fighter could have that list of names. Lots of good fighters and some very good ones. Some past prime, I accept Tyson was well past his best, but Lewis had wanted to fight him since he came out of prison but he avoided Lewis.
He beat Ruddock, Tucker, Mercer, Briggs, Vitali, Golota, Holyfield, Tua the list goes on. Avenged both his losses. It speaks for itself, if you can’t accept his career was excellent then it can only be because you don’t want to.

Hated Lewis for obvious reason lol thought he lost to Holyfield in rematch he seems to win that fight on jabs even tho Holyfield walked him down and landed more power punches,got the nod against ray mercer in a scrap that could of went to mercer,struggled vs Bruno god knows what Bruno was thinking �� when he was trying crappy small tap tap uppercuts with his right hand,Lewis then clocked him lol,but he had some really good wins against fighters past it ruddock tucker,Holyfield 1 Tyson,mason,mcall2fought some trash as all fighters do in akinwande,then average ones like tua golota Briggs,his best win was vitali and old Holyfield 1.

You’re being very biased man. I’m a Holyfield fan too, and Evander has said in interview that he hit his peak in his mid 30’s around the Tyson fights. Lewis only fought him two and a half years later, and wanted to fight him as soon as he beat Tyson.
It’s rubbish that Bruno ever had a chance of beating Lewis either. Bruno won a few early rounds, that doesn’t win a fight.

This is true. In real time I was almost always complaining about Lewis' fights. So cautious, so boring most of the time. Then came the Klitschko's who brought new lows, so now I look back somewhat fondly on Lennox. I guess this is the way it goes for all fighters. Time tends to add luster, strangely, instead of the opposite.

That's true. I have more respect for Lewis these days. As you say, we all got a bit spoiled in the late 80's and 90's. As a Tyson and Holyfield fan, the bar for action was set pretty high. Lewis was a solid champion who had some impressive wins, but, honestly, he did have a lot of stinkers too. For a guy his size, he fought a bit too cautious for my liking on most nights.

To be honest appollocreed beat me to the punch by saying that Lewis wasn’t a boring fighter but we had been spoit by watching Tyson being an early round wrecking machine early in his career.
You have to consider though, it wasn’t just for entertainments sake, tyson fought to his strengths and utilised his assets. A short stocky powerhouse with a peek a boo guard has to get inside and cause chaos to have success.
I don’t think we can be too critical of Lewis using his assets and fighting behind a jab, he could have been a lot more cautious in his career given one punch in the heavyweight division can be career altering. But he definitely wasn’t just a jab and grab merchant and gave us some massively entertaining firefights.
