DAZN Forcing Canelo to Commit to GGG Trilogy if he Wants to Fight Derevyanchenko

Not in the US they didn't. They need Canelo to exist in the US without him he takes all of DAZN's US subscribers. Not only would they lose 10's of millions in subscription revenue every month Canelo doesn't fight it will be the nail in the coffin to US fans if he never fights on DAZN again. Imagine launching in the US on the back of Canelo and less then 1 year in he refuses to fight for you and you have ZERO content to fall back on. You think any of the other leagues in the US will have anything to do with them when they just ruined their creditably in the US market? Canelo is their most important partner if they couldn't make it work with him then why would anyone take them serious and sign with DAZN? And as for fans you only have 1 shot to make a first impression it's business suicide because they will be known for Canelo saying phuk you and taking all their subscribers with him.
It's not rocket science DAZN needs Canelo more then he needs them which is why they just buckled and caved in. Canelo is still getting paid and still fighting someone NOT named GGG but now both sides understand Canelo can't be told who he is fighting or when. Canelo fights when he wants and on his terms.
If Canelo doesn't fight then they lose subs and when they lose subs then they lose money. So if they are losing money here in the states, then there will no reason for them to stay in the states.
Also, John Skipper was named the new chairman of DAZN and launched here in America in September 2018; While adding combat sports like Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts to its platform.
In addition, he put Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing USA in charge of all it's boxing content on DAZN; Which includes 32 cards per year. With 16 of them being in the U.S. and while the other 16 is in the U.K.
So to say that DAZN did not exist in the U.S. before Canelo Alvarez is factually incorrect. DAZN did indeed launch boxing in the U.S. Before Saul Alvarez. Remember they had the "World Boxing Super Series" and Matchroom Boxing USA before Canelo Alvarez December 2018 debut.
If it wasn't for Eddie Hearn then Canelo Alvarez wouldn't even be on DAZN because he was the one helped recruit him.Comment

DAZN has a lot of money to give away. A lot of key people would be more than happy to get their hands on a money grab including Canelo Alvarez; Which is why he shouldn't antagonize DAZN's brass before DAZN decide to close shop in the U.S. Then none of the boxers will get paid.

Hearn had nothing to do with Canelo going to DAZN. lol His contract ending with HBO and them leaving the sport is why he was a free agent and every network wanted to sign him. Oscar made a deal for Canelo by going around Hearn and signed directly with Skipper. The original plan was DAZN gives the money to hearn and fighters have to sign promotional deals with Matchroom to get on DAZN. Does Canelo or Golden Boy have any deals with Hearn? Nope. Matter fact if they had to do a deal with Hearn to get on DAZN they wouldn't of signed and would of went somewhere else.Last edited by bigdunny1; 07-23-2019, 05:22 PM.Comment

And if he doesn't fight GGG then what? Canelo means more than DAZN than any other sport/fighter they have. I mean there are articles out showing the impact he has on DAZN.
I mean ideally, DAZN would have LOVED to get Canelo/GGG III in September and Wilder/Joshua in November or December. And they will get neither and won't even get Joshua in prime time if he fights in Cardiff. So I understand why they are getting frustrated. If they had those two fights on their network, they would have been doing VERY well and could have been approaching 2 million subscribers by years end.
However, they have to be careful ticking off Canelo. He is their meal ticket right now and while DAZN should have a say in his opponents, they shouldn't be putting these types of demands on him. We have seen his history, and he tends to fight damn near anyone. Trust the process.....
They are going to flex on him, and they are going to flex on him hard, especially with Joshua losing his luster. There is no world in which they signed a $365m contract with him, without the power to dictate basically everything.
They will obviously try and keep him happy, but they know that what people want to see is GGG vs Canelo 3.
People are not going to stay subscribed for this kind of dancing around.Comment

Canelo isn't a meal ticket, he is being over paid to fight people nobody has an interest in seeing him fight. He is supposed to be driving subscriptions. People are signing up for a month, and canceling their subscriptions, basically make it a low cost PPV that doesn't turn a profit. They increased the one month subscription price for this reason. He is a huge financial liability for them right now. There is no way they have turned a profit from Canelo.

I think he knows he has to fight GGG, you not going to sign that sort of contract for that sort of money without DAZN having an involvement in that aspect, why did you think Wilder was adviced against signing that DAZN deal? He would have to fight Joshua/Whyte etc Boxers that isn’t within the control of PBC only.
DAZN seems to think that they're somehow special when they're not.
They paid Canelo $365m to deliver 11 events, full stop. started with Fielding, then Jacobs in New York, then a likely fight with Derevyanchenko, and then you've got Kovalev, Andrade, and likely Munguia.
Canelo isn't going to be able to deliver 11 events without fighting Golovkin once, but DAZN are fools if they think that they will say when the said fight will happen, lolComment

Floyd got $250m for 6 fights with Showtime/CBS having real interest in a Pacquiao fight, but they didn't press him about it, because Floyd got them a seat at the table and making the biggest fight possible worked for both parties.

HE is a huge financial liability huh? I wonder what you think of rest of the fighters and rest of the sports rights DAZN is paying for, considering numbers show just how much of an impact Canelo makes. HE is the liability, but not GGG who supposedly had little impact on subscribers against Rolls? Laughable, Canelo is the only needle mover DAZN has right now...And HE knows it.
Getting 1.2m viewers for getting $35m vs Jacobs who himself got $10m, is con****uously more viewers than they have subscribers.
He would have to bring in 440k new subscribers who subscribed for a year to make that break even, because even at their higher 1 month subscription cost, that still comes out at a loss.
Now add in the $35m from the fielding fight, Canelo needs to have brought in 800 thousand new subscribers that will subscribe for atleast a year just to break even for DAZN.
It says a lot that DAZNs spin is that the viewership numbers were great for sponsors.
When your business model is to gain subscribers, and you are touting that the numbers were good for sponsors... yeah... the subscription rates are probably not something to write home about it.
They continue to have a problem with people signing up just for the fight, then canceling, because they have nothing compelling in the works.Comment
