Most will concede that the REASON DAZN signed GGG was to get the Canelo Trilogy. Must of us will agree to this. And many boxings fans have stated that Canelo doesn't necessarily need GGG. Also know that these Multi-Deals for any high athlete SIMPLY means the organization is WILLING and GUARANTEE the multi-deal as long the athlete stays the course till the contract ends, never a lump-sum (insurance/risk).
So here's the problem...
In sports, the highest paid athletes are TRADITIONALLY based on SEASONS/YEAR. With boxing, since the concept of PPV vs general subscriptions have a different retainment than other sports, the problem with Canelo GGG is battle of meritocracy and double dipping to justify another boxer's Multi-Deal.
It's rather fairly simple. Keep in mind that Canelo would make a minimum of $35Mil on his Mexican dates even if it WEREN'T a unification! Hence Canelo's Team saying, ''go get a belt,'' to insinuate things being handed on a silver platter. And again, most industry sources know as Canelo's Team, that Loeffler guided GGG to DAZN for the Trilogy. Meaning, it's because of Canelo.
Let us remind ourselves what Hauser reported for Ring:
Canelo’s pay for future outings will depend upon the opponent and various benchmarks regarding DAZN’s performance. The minimum purse for each of these fights (likely to be contested on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day weekends) will be $35 million.
Canelo 11 fights 365Mil
GGG 6 fights 100Mil
Canelo vs Fielding 15Mil
Canelo vs Jacobs 35Mil (Unification)
GGG vs Rolls 15Mil
Now it quite possibly be that Loeffler and DAZN worked out a MINIMUM for GGG should he fight on the Mexican Holidays as well. We don't know those details from the contracts, and knowing Loeffler, he probably persuaded Skipper that the whole HBO/Mexican Theme was a success...
Meaning, GGG could easily just COAST his Multi-Fight Deal fighting on the Mexican Holidays and taking a minimum of $20 million fighting whoever...
In other words, should Canelo vs GGG happen, it could possibly be another Canelo purse of $35mil with GGG POSSIBLY getting $25-30mil. As you can see, this is where the problem falls because this isn't your ordinary PPV split, and the ratio is a mess.
GBP know that their splits would have to be publicized, and it's hard to know what GGG would make. And again, a huge portion from GGG's multi-deal is simply double dipping off Canelo. This is a big problem that DAZN probably didn't realize since they assumed Canelo would be happy with his Multi-Deal. Unfortunately, Canelo's contract probably doesn't have any specifics for GGG, nor that it should.
Here's how GBP and Canelo see GGG's Multi-Deal, nicely hypothesized by Hauser:
GGG vs Rolls 15mil
GGG vs Canelo 30mil
GGG vs ? 15mil
GGG vs ? 13mil
GGG vs ? 13mil
GGG vs ? 14mil
Now if you're Canelo Alvarez, you can see that GGG's bag is based on you.
The split ratio is too much for GGG, and that's the reason why we don't have this fight. Canelo fights on Mexican Holidays: Twice a Year: ideally 35mil average... That's the most he can get if you even out 5 years. GGG could easily get a $30 mil purse to fight Canelo, and it's none of his business since its a deal between the Kazakh and DAZN. This is where the problem lies.
