Oscar was a big star way before he fought JC Chavez. He was lionized by the media and fans shortly after winning gold at the Barcelona Olympics. He had an army of screaming girls young women at each of his bouts. Among other things, he put Mayweather and Pacquiao on the PPV map. He was a big deal in his time.

You are as bout as smart as a box of rocks. Whitaker fought and beat everybody of his era. He was already over the hill when he fought De La Renta

Great to hear ODLH always praising him.

Good for Oscar; That was awfully gracious of him to say about an all-time boxing great and legend. Just to state for the record I had Whitaker winning their fight also. He was ripped off just like he was against Chavez in their fight.

What's ****** about his comment? I agree with him.

Whitaker was 33 and honestly, shiiit wasn't even that close. All Whitaker had was flashy defense/dodging punches once in a while but not much connecting. Most of the time Oscar was busy connecting, and connecting some more.

People make such a big deal over some mythical controversy when in reality Oscar was accumulating points and the aggressor and pretty much won easily.

Boxers with Whitakers slick dodging punches style make me roll my eyes. They have to be slick, but they have to bring it too. I can fight with a point to dodge and weave and run and make anyone look bad too but no one wants to see that shiiiit...except the brothers lol

You're the type guy who saw highlights of their fight. Read about it on the internet and pointlessly got on here to give us your crap opinion. It was a close fight but De La Hoya won it. Nothing sad about losing to someone like ODLH who is an all time great. The lose did nothing to tarnish Parnell's career he was already a hall of fame fighter. Instead focus on his victories over Azumah Nelson, Cesar Vasquez, Paez, Luis Castillo, Mcgrit and Poli Diaz. He was magic against those guys.

It’s awesome that DLH took time out of his busy schedule to give praise to a lesser fighter and understanding that although a lesser fighter, he was not a lesser man.

Settle down, you misunderstood my post. I wasn't talking about who won between DLH vs Whitaker. I'm simply saying that DLH became a megastar after he beat JCC.

So elusive throughout career but ironically not this occasion.

Great sentiment but De La Hoya needs to go back to his start an recognize great fighters like Whitaker helped open the door for him. So why is he closing the door on Canelo’s best threats? That is the truest robbery.

However, I do think Oscar did just enough to edge out the older champion however Chavez SR should have taken that obvious L. That fight wasn’t even close. A paid draw to save a popular fighter if I have ever seen one.
