Not true what they did is similar to what they did with Linares when they elevated him and gave him the WBC Diamond belt which was elevated ahead of the WBC championship that he had before he was injured. They even recognized it for unification fights with Crolla. What they did is similar to the WBA when they created the super champ elevated it over the WBA Regular champ. Only difference is Canelo doesn't have to be bothered with mandatory defenses but when he fights he will be defending the WBC Diamond belt. Charlo is now the WBC "Regular" champ but Canelo is still the higher ranked WBC champ

I think the WBC are just codifying what everyone knew already... they ain't intending to try and make Canelo fight anyone he don't want to. Much like with the WBAs 'super' championship the actual WBC 'World' championship title has suddenly been rendered effectively meaningless even if it is still the officially recognised title. What good is it if they guy who everyone knows is the actually #1 and brings all the $$$s to the table doesn't have to fight you if you win it?

Nor do I think unification is really an issue. Even though we've got dudes on here insisting the IBF is worthy of contempt for trying to make Canelo fight his mandatory, the simple fact is that if he doesn't want to fight Derevyanchenko or anyone else he's simply gonna drop that ish in the trash and same for the WBA I guess, though I strongly imagine they will follow a similar route to the WBC - Gilberto gets nearly as creepy as Mauricio when Canelo's name is mentioned.

Ginger dude's basically worth so much to so many people they making up their own rules just for him, whilst the rest of the dudes in boxing - the fighters that thought working their way up the ranks might mean something - just gonna have to suck it up I guess. When Canelo fights he defends the WBC Diamond belt (which the WBC established with Linares to be the higher champ and even recognized it for unifications) if he loses they mandate the winner to fight the WBC Regular champ to re-establish 1 single champion. Which is exactly what the WBA said when they created the super Champ status. When the WBA super champ lost they were supposed to fight the WBA regular champ to eliminate 2 belts in the same division the WBA has since ignored this and in most weights continue having 2 champs in 1 weight class. But until canelo loses he is the true WBC champ while Charlo is the secondary champ aka the WBA "Regular" champ nobody considers the real champ.

The emeritus is about a retired fighter doe I know that so its not like that. The emeritus belt gives a retired champion the ability to come back to fight for the belt.
