I think the WBC are just codifying what everyone knew already... they ain't intending to try and make Canelo fight anyone he don't want to. Much like with the WBAs 'super' championship the actual WBC 'World' championship title has suddenly been rendered effectively meaningless even if it is still the officially recognised title. What good is it if they guy who everyone knows is the actually #1 and brings all the $$$s to the table doesn't have to fight you if you win it?

Nor do I think unification is really an issue. Even though we've got dudes on here insisting the IBF is worthy of contempt for trying to make Canelo fight his mandatory, the simple fact is that if he doesn't want to fight Derevyanchenko or anyone else he's simply gonna drop that ish in the trash and same for the WBA I guess, though I strongly imagine they will follow a similar route to the WBC - Gilberto gets nearly as creepy as Mauricio when Canelo's name is mentioned.

Ginger dude's basically worth so much to so many people they making up their own rules just for him, whilst the rest of the dudes in boxing - the fighters that thought working their way up the ranks might mean something - just gonna have to suck it up I guess. The title linage is effed with all these champions, but now when you make a champion who not really the champion who can transfer a belt if he loses its even more confusing & comical, I mean the bottom line is Canelo is The Champion at MW. But now he's not cuz he's got no real belt that a guy who can beat him can win.

F#cking ****** & makes me hate how the sport even more as impossible as that sounds. And I imagine when casual fans see Canelo lose a fight & the guy who beat him not be deemed The Champion that'll convince them boxing is even more bs then they thought.

The Diamond belt, Huichol belt, Money belt, Cinco De Mayo Belt, Pearl belt are not real belts it's commemorative memorabilia that's why whoever beats Canelo get a direct challenge to the real WBC belt holder

Not true. The Diamond Belt is different and the WBC created the precedent with Jorge Linares who was the WBC champ. Got injured so they upgraded him to Diamond champ status and made his WBC regular belt vacant for Dejan to fight for. Dejan won but they recognized Linares as the real champ with higher status even did something we have never seen from the WBC recognizing him fighting Crolla the WBA champ as a unification bout something that is never done for Money Belt, Cinco De Mayo and any other commemorative belt.

What they did is basically what the WBA did when they created the WBA super belt now Charlo is the secondary champ.

Canelo is the franchise champ but when he fights the WBC Diamond Championship belt is on the line and that can definitely be lost and transferred.

You are an idiot if you think every time canelo fights at 160 the WBC won't put the WBC Diamond belt on the line and collect sanction fees and notoriety by having their belt front and center. They added that line about the franchise status holding the WBC Diamond belt amd defending it in their release for that specific reason. And if Canelo fights another belt holder the WBC will definitely include it and call it a unification just like they did with Linares and he brings no where near the amount of money and attention to his fights like Canelo. All they did was create a new title like the WBA super but without the need to fight any mandatories but added wording so they don't get boxed in the future with the Franchise status for future fighters that they may give this title to next.

The may be on the line is likey also in case Canelo chooses to fight at another weight outside of 160 so they can decide whether or not to allow canelo WBC Diamond belt to be on the line in that case. But if he fighting at 160 you better believe the WBC will have that belt front and center.

Andy Ruiz Jr is now the WBA "super" champion for beating AJ it's not the same thing at all you beat Canelo then you get a mandatory shot at WBC belt

From my understanding the diamond belt may or may not be up for grabs in a Canelo fight. Or its not guaranteed it'll be up for grabs basically.
