    DAZN: Canelo’s boss, GGG’s partner

I’m not trying to claim GGG is worth more to the network because he isn’t. But after today’s news, it’s clear how DAZN views their relationship with both fighters.

DAZN signed GGG because they want him to fight Canelo a third time, and maybe a fourth and fifth time. That’s all they care about and it’s all GGG cares about. So they partnered up to make sure the Canelo fight(s) happen. GGG isn’t going to fight anyone with a prayer to beat him until he fights Canelo. DAZN is fine with that because they only care about putting him in with Canelo. They don’t care about any other GGG fight that boxing fans would care about. His entire contract is about a third and maybe even more fights with Canelo.

Canelo’s relationship with them is a bit different. Canelo got paid and DAZN wants it’s super fight. He says he might want to unify with Andrade. DAZN says no because it could screw up the GGG fight. He says he wants to fight Munguia and DAZN says no because they don’t want him fighting substandard opponents to delay the third GGG fight. They’ll only approve Kovalev because if Canelo loses that fight, it doesn’t screw up the third GGG fight.

Basically DAZN signed Canelo to broadcast him fighting the biggest opponents. They signed GGG to work with him and ensure he got another shot at Canelo.

It’s a classic partner vs boss relationship. Eat your heart out De La Hoya.

GGG is not very relevant to DAZN until he fights Canelo GGG fighting Andrade is not moving the needle so they don't mind him in showcase fights getting a highlight KO to build the eventual Canelo fight

Every Canelo fight moves the needle the bigger the fight the more subs they add that's why they're more concerned with Canelo opponent

It isn’t a surprise that Dazn and gbp have different plans.

Gbp wants to keep Canelo winning and doesn’t care about the quality of opponent because he gets paid the guarantee either way.

Dazn wants more subs sold so they need Canelo to fight quality fights to attract new customers.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Ultimately I think Canelo gets his way until Dazn loses money.

          right!

and as a partner, it means ggg is kind of canelo's boss.

partners are sitting with the big wigs at the shareholder meeting planning out what canela is allowed to do any given day

no doubt ggg is toward the front of skipper's rolodex

Canelo has his own protection plan. Mother hen Oscar keeping the golden chicken out of the ring with the mean old man no matter what it takes.

To me, it's glaringly clear what their roles are. Canelo is there to bring in subs. GG is there to boost Canelo's value and add to their roster/content.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but idk that DAZN is okay with GGG fighting ANYONE. I think GGG got away with Rolls, but idk that he'll get away with a 2nd Rolls-like opponent. And its worth noting DAZN wanting to make GGG vs Andrade instead of GGG vs Rolls.

So I suspect either GGG gets next or GGG is gonna have to fight someone himself cuz DAZN is gonna put the squeeze on him just like they seem like they are with Canelo right now. So the two most likely opponents for GGG imo are Andrade & Munguia. If GGG wins DAZN is good & gets their trilogy fight. If GGG loses DAZN has two more sellable opponents with GGG's scalp that makes them viable for Canelo next time around. So its win win for DAZN.

DAZN been losing money & will continue to lose money regardless of what Canelo does. They need to be spending more money now to play the long game of growth over profit.

I suspect DAZN is playing hardball with Canelo now & will be playing hardball with GGG next. GGG isn't fighting a Rolls-like guy next I'd next. He's getting Canelo, Andrade or Munguia. Maybbeeeeeeee Derevyanchenko since this IBF stuff is getting put out today.

I still don't know what was DAZN thinking when they made GGG their partner and gave him a stock in the company. The guy is going to sink this company with his horrendously poor decision making and cherry picking. His PR sense is horrible, he can't talk for *****, and he is a walking contradiction every time he opens his mouth.
