AJ was doing fine until he got caught with a big counter hook trying to finish. Not to mention he was landing counter hooks and one-twos almost at will throughout the fight. It’s hard to tell a guy to not throw punches when he’s having more trouble missing than he is landing.
That “lay back and don’t get greedy” plan of attack sounds good in theory, but doesn’t always work. Fury made his fight against Wilder a lot closer than it had to be by “not getting greedy.” Pacquiao let Floyd off the hook a couple times “not being greedy.”Comment

Ruiz already said in the rematch he thinks Joshua will try to box more so he will be applying more tactical pressure. According to Whyte, if Joshua is patient, he could set up Ruiz with some big shots later in the fight. The problem with Whyte's theory and everyone else is they keep discounting Ruiz’s experience and amateur background and that the guy simply knows how to fight and will make his own adjustments in the rematch.
Also, Joshua’s conditioning and
focus just didn’t look good in the last fight. His flexibility and versatility is also a little challenged right now because of the muscle mass he carries which impacts his reaction time to avoid punches and throw counters against a shorter and quicker guy like Ruiz. And the worst thing that could happen to a fighter is getting dropped multiple times in a fight. Joshua was dropped (4) times!!! Because Ruiz already knows he can hurt him and get him out of there by throwing quick combinations, he will be coming all night with strategic pressure. And Joshua knows Ruiz can hurt him.
I think Joshua will be very cautious and try to box towards a win but start to get dominated midway towards the end of the fight because he seems to run out of gas too. It goes 12 but I don’t think Joshua can out box Ruiz and win by decision. He needs to stop Ruiz and that will open him up to the same result as the 1st fight. But if Joshua wins, give him credit because it will be an uphill battle. Styles make fights, this is a bad style for Joshua.Comment

Well said! I'm assuming Joshua will have to make it somewhat of a boring fight. Clinch Ruiz like how Holyfield clinched Tyson, using his weightlifting strength and body weight to drain Mikes aerobic based training and to stop his leaping style of attack. Wlad was extremely successful with that style, which I consider boring to the max. But it worked. And it saves gas.Originally posted by markther View Post

Ruiz can't keep reaching successfully for Joshuas head if he has to lift his heavy frame off the ground to get to it, Joshua needs to make him "work" for every successful connection. I'd like to think Joshua can win, but as you said, take off some of that muscle, and heck man, he needs to use that advantageous RANGE!Comment

Apparently, getting upset by a polished pro with fast hands has never happened to anyone in the history of boxing ever. By the way, I am taking the unpopular opinion position: I think Joshua beats Ruiz in the rematch. I think Joshua got sloppy over his last few fights, and it caught up to him. If he fights tall and works behind his jab, Ruiz has every disadvantage that everyone said he had when he replaced Miller in the first place. Now, Joshua will respect him more and want to win worse.
