A couple of comments: First off, Ruiz used pressure fighting tactics to win this fight. He also made sure that Joshua was going backwards... like a good pressure guy he did not want Joshua to set his feet. Pressure guys don't harbor the illusion of inertia! no no NO!! The fact that another body is in the way only means that body has to be moved, not that they will stop and engage because a big chiseled guy is in the way.
Shoulder Roll says Joshua can't fight off the back foot, absolutely correct. Most fighters these days can't and one of the reasons this skill...that those creepy, untalented, crude older guys that the history section talks about, all seemed to have in some measure, or another....is because you need it to deal with a decent pressure fighter.
Jugs says this is partially an issue of style and Joshua needing to work on stamina later... That is the reason why Joshua, a very talented fighter, can lose to another talented fighter with different skills sets than some of the guys Joshua has beat.
MDPopescu talks about infighting and I would dovetail and say the fluidity between ranges as well...Again! Those crude looking guys who look like bad punching puppets? Those too small heavy weights from yore? they all had to understand the concept of range, footwork and how to operate inside with the shoulders, the elbows, etc.
So one of the points I am trying to make by citing some of the comments that I agree with, is that Ruiz by comparison to Joshua, has a lot more developed skill sets. Joshua's talent is in his punching, particularly in his ability to throw combos off the jab. But he has to find a way to set his feet and get his punches off and Ruiz has a great beard.
Ruiz to me looks a bit like a young Chris Areola with faster feet and hand speed and more deliberate movements. Joshua has a lot on his plate frankly. What people fail to realize at times, is that Ruiz has every reason to be confident.Comment

I’ve always looked at AJ with a bit of a Jaundiced eye, but I also thought he was improving. He dropped Ruiz we seem to forget. Without that KD in the follow up exchange maybe AJ keeps him at the end of his punches for a few more rounds. I see it being closer anyway.Comment

It’s hard not to rate a fighter who fights wld Klitschko in his 19th fight gets off the deck and wins by knockout . Each to their own I guess
Agree Ruiz looked the biz last fight ... let’s see how the rematch pans out
Styles make fights . Fury is feather fisted and wilder can’t box for shid . Would still like to see those fights
That was Joshua's best win, but he still went life and death.
His performances against Povetkin, Parker and Takam since then had not been very impressive, even though two of them ended with stoppages.
Yes he has power, he's along way off a rounded, intelligent fighter though. There are also questions marks over his punch resistance now.Comment

I think he gave Joshua too much respect in the first fight, especially when it was obvious that AJ was there for the takings. I see Ruiz picking up from where he left and doing the same thing but a lot better and faster the second time around.Comment

In fact, Ruiz just reacted... In the 3rd round he came off a KD and he was "all in"... In the 6th AJ tried to come hard at mid rage and Ruiz caught him badly ... and then he dispatched him into the 7th...Last edited by MDPopescu; 07-04-2019, 07:05 AM.Comment

I never rated Joshua since he turned pro, I'd never seen Ruiz fight before, but now I have, I've seen he's got the skillset to beat Joshua again.
I always said Joshua would get found out against someone good enough to test him, but I thought I would have to wait for him to fight Fury or Wilder to see it.
I'm backing Ruiz to win again. Fury or Wilder would beat him too.Comment
