I do agree that GGG-Canelo 2 wasn't much. Canelo is hardly worth hundreds of millions. Is he as exciting as Duran was?
The Fury-Swartz fight was also ludicrous, especially Teddy Atlas and ESPN's other shills proclaiming Tyson Fury the greatest because of THAT fight.
But there have always been fighters that didn't thrill many people (Larry Holmes and Vlad the Klit, both jabbers) and fights that never happened due to the Alphabet Soup. There are still plenty of fun match-ups coming up and colorful fighters.
One thing missing now is really good announcers to help liven things up. Mauro and his "Mamma Mia" shouting and his prepared ad-lib puns doesn't cut it. Come back, HBO!
The boxing media should tell the WBA to STUFF IT with their bogus "Super Champ" category, and to not recognize the IBO at all.
As for MMA, yeah, I hear ya. A lot of personalities there, and it's rare when a star doesn't have to fight a #1 challenger. No surprise they rarely have champs lasting year after year.
They also program short-attention-span fights that are mostly 3 rounds max, that often end fast. They don't drone on and on for 10 rounds with every round identical to the last.
And the MMA doesn't do national anthems, even for championship fights. No tedious damn national anthems. I just wish they'd shorten up the ring walks, and the ritual of somebody feeling up every fighter's arms and legs before they get into the ring.
