the reason they'd do it is because if Charlo didn't get a shot after being the mandatory already for a couple of yrs, they'd be putting themselves in an even worse position. So they're basically covering their asses and they also remember last time they went the route of stripping Canelo which backfired on them when canelo said fk your belt.
