...Because as scant as his punches were, he still fared better in landed shots than Lobov, whose biggest "success" came during the little pseudo-headlock he got Paulie into in round 4 and otherwise spent the night swinging at air like a blind caveman. Aggression gets the nod in regular boxing when other factors like landed shots are reasonably competitive. It would seem that BKFC does not take even that into consideration and just gives the nod to the human bulldozer even if they drive right past their target. In BKFC land, David Lemieux "demolished" BJ Saunders because he was the "aggressor" all night. There's probably truth to the idea that Paulie's gameplan which was basically indistinguishable from his usual MO was downright inappropriate for the platform, but giving the decision to Lobov considering his performance as a whole, even on the merit of aggression was really pushing things imo. It honestly felt more like Lobov got the nod because they had basically willed it to be so with anything short of Paulie getting a KO.Stylistically there's nothing like pure boxing.
What just frustrates me is when people on NSB criticize the defensive boxers and say all that matters is punches landed, but then say Paulie somehow won a fight where the number of punches he landed in three rounds could be counted on one hand.Last edited by Sweet Scions; 06-26-2019, 11:39 PM.Comment

...Also, I swear I was not remotely emotionally invested in this sideshow curiosity, despite the amount I've now written on it giving the opposite impression. I promise that is the last I have to say on it all, haha.Comment

It comes down to the difference between boxing and a FIGHT.
If you saw Paulie and Lobov out on a street knuckled up, after 10 minutes you'd been call Paulie a B for the way he "fought". That's the only measure that matters in BKFC - are you trying to make it a fight or are you trying to stay safe? If you're trying to stay safe you're not going to win any fans over there.Comment

Fair enough, I've come to accept this as one of the chief ways BKFC distinguishes itself as its own animal. I think it perplexed and frustrated a lot of curious boxing fans without any real understanding of platform protocol aside from the surface level stuff (knuckles, 5x2 round structure) who just tuned in out of curiosity or to see Paulie catch a beating, but I do get the rationale in terms of what they want to push, the closest thing to a sanctioned street fisticuffs. Bottom line, BKFC isn't the place to get your Sweet Pea on.It comes down to the difference between boxing and a FIGHT.

Again, I agree. Paulie shamed himself (and the boxing world) with that showing - especially after all his trash talk. Lobov was the obvious winner (of a stinker of a fight) and maybe I'll tune into another BKFC bout in the future but right now I don't feel like it. And I blame Paulie for that, certainly not Lobov who came to fight. Personally, I'd make the ring much smaller to 'encourage' more action and discourage the kind of tactics used by Paulie.Stylistically there's nothing like pure boxing.

How can we respectfully listen to his commentary now? For me, it's going to be difficult to say the least, which is a shame because he was an astute observer, imo.Comment

I promise you, if Randall Bailey's fight wasn't canceled, you would not have seen him in there throwing for the fences. He would have boxed and picked shots. BUT he would have put on a much better show of it than Paulie, because Bailey would have been throwing with bad intentions the whole time. You don't have to slug, but FFS, if your punches look weaker than Holly Holm's, you don't deserve to win.Comment
