Arum needs to learn from Oscar and not release the actual live gate and ticket comp numbers when you're announcing a fake sell out crowd.

        A couple of things here.

        1. Fury fought a complete no namer in Schwarz that no one had heard of. This wasn't a noticeable opponent or anything. To have a gate of almost 900k is not THAT bad. I'm not trying to say this fight did great numbers or anything, but that is a solid figure.

        2. So I read some folks saying this fight lost a lot of money with this low gate figure? Please do tell how this fight was supposed to make money? Even if it did 3M in gate revenue, no way could they generate 13M or so for the main event purses. That is a complete myth. You don't cover all your expenses on these big purse fights on non-PPVs. The network puts up a license fee and the promoter only pays what the license fee doesn't cover. In this case? ESPN is the one that pushed Arum to sign Fury and they are the ones that decided on the type of deal he got. After signing Fury, ESPN increased their budget from approximately 60M to 90M.

        3. Will Fury have to do better numbers in the future? Of course, but the main thing with putting his fight on ESPN+ was to increase their subscriber base. It wasn't about the type of gate revenue this fight generates as it was unreasonable to expect this fight to do well in Vegas with Fury making his first real A-side US appearance against a no-namer. Now, did this fight help increase the subscriber base for ESPN+? No clue, but the Fury signing was a long play signing.

        4. A lot of the signing will ride on what happens with the Wilder fight (s). It hinges on the fight doing well in PPV sales and Fury winning where ESPN can have more control of the HW division. If the Wilder fights flop and he gets knocked out? Then sure, you can say this turned out to be a bad signing for ESPN/TR and it was a big net loss.

You are being sarcastic. To be fair to Tyson, he had to compete against other things like people playing other sports and such

Do you really believe that they were expecting a sellout and huge ratings for a Schwarz fight? One of the issues that I have with boxing is that most undercards are subpar. Too much money for the main eventers leaves peanuts for the rest. The Tyson Fury signing was an investment. It's a risk. Although Fury can be a clown at times he is good for the sport. The bottom line is that the top guys have to fight each other in every division not just the heavy's. The Joshua fans prove a very important point. The difference between brits and americans is that we can not be so easily fooled. We realized that A.J was all hype a long time ago!
