casual fans need to learn how to score a fight.....

Pretty good video. I'm glad the sample scoring included an even round. It seems like a small minority of fight fans acknowledge that these things actually exist. Too often fans force themselves to score a 10-9 round when the round was truly even; as though it was somehow weak, indecisive or wishy-washy to not be able to discern a winner for each and every round. This perception, IMO, is the number one reason why fight cards end up being so controversial. Most competitive fights have one or more genuinely even rounds, but they almost never get scored that way.
I thought the video was straight-forward and well-done, but I do take minor issue with the way it sort of perpetuates the myth that the first KD in a round is somehow worth a 2 point deduction instead of 1. The author implies that a KD must necessarily confer the round (and therefore an automatic 10-8 round), but that's not true at all. There are many cases when fighter A completely dominates a round except for a KD. Sometime this could be a very insignificant flash knockdown, yet the author would apparently score this a 10-8 for Fighter B.
This is not how it works. All KDs are worth the same 1-point deduction. Before deducting points for KDs and fouls, the scorer must determine who won the round - apart from the KD's and fouls. I think its very difficult for people to separate a KD from the rest of the round, but the rules don't allow for extra subjective credit for KDs beyond the 1 point deduction.Last edited by NachoMan; 06-25-2019, 11:03 AM.Comment

Got a friend who's a well respected child psychologist, and we talk about stuff, y'know, specially cos I got kids and that. She tells me that all the current research points to attention being vitally important for a childs development and that a lack of attention being given to a child can be at least as harmful as more active forms of abuse such as shouting or physical violence... that in fact children will learn to behave in ways that elicit such negative attention in preference to no attention at all.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 06-25-2019, 12:24 PM.Comment

I agree with that 100%
Most judges, commentators and pundits nowadays will automatically award the round to the fighter who scores a KD, and deduct a point from the opponent. I can't remember the last time I saw a 10 - 9 round after a KD.

Something needs to be done about the way fights are being scored nowadays. Applying the rules around KDs properly and allowing for even rounds when necessary would be a good way to start.Last edited by kafkod; 06-25-2019, 02:33 PM.Comment
