Take a look at the NY Authorized and Competitive Sports Tax effective 1 Sep 2016 and have a look at what the state taxes are in NY these days - its capped, and for big fights its not significant.

That’s even for an NBA player who plays one or two games there in a season. At top-end boxing purse rates, that’s a big chunk of money to hand over just to have it at a certain arena.

Nevada, by contrast, has no state income tax. They still have to pay federal taxes, but nothing more.

So unless this dude has the power to change tax laws in New York, they’d be fools to fight there.
