It's actually sort of understandable for someone like Imam signing this when he was a kid in 2011. But why did Vanes sign with King AFTER being in the game for like 10 years? That one made no sense at all.Comment

Yea wouldn't argue with that. Vanes seems a special kinda r3tarded.
He's definitely in my top 3, top 5 dumbest boxers list.Comment

Isn't that on Spoon doe? If he's legit borrowing money from Don he's gonna have to pay it back. Thats like Manny allegedly borrowing money from Arum isn't it? Of course Manny is gonna have to pay Arum.
Now idk all the stuff behind the scenes that might be more sketchy by King that led to Spoon needing to borrow money in the first place, but the borrowing money in & of itself is on Spoon more than King collecting on it isn't it?Comment

Thoughts on this promotional contract?
Is this what a 360 boxing deal looks like? Seeing stuff that seems like it excludes Iman from doing ANYTHING off of his name that could give him side money without Don's approval & which I assume means Don wants his cut of it & he'd just need to know the deal to know the type of cut thats best for him.Comment

Yeah of course it falls back on the fighter but a lot of times these fighters just don't know and that is a problem as well. Promoters will do thing for fighters, then deduct it later with very high Interest. However when you come from nothing, $50K advances are impossible to turn down and promoters know thatIsn't that on Spoon doe? If he's legit borrowing money from Don he's gonna have to pay it back. These things pile up on these fighters real fast then when they start to complain and want out then the promoter comes back and say "Ok No Problem Here Is The Amount You Owe, You Want Out Then Give Me This Amount Of Money" it will typically be an amount that he knows the fighter doesn't have
Promoters do put themselves in the Red to try and build these fighters up into stars though so yeah they should make their money too since they're usually putting up all the money to organize events
If Imam would've beat Jose Ramirez and Adrian Granados, I doubt he would be trying to leave Don King right now be honest.Last edited by sicko; 06-10-2019, 12:32 PM.Comment

Imagine having nothing in your wallet or bank account.
Don King offers you a hundred thousand or two hundred thousand advance paid up front. Nobody else is offering you that kind of up front money.
That's why guys still sign with Don King.Comment

Idk that seems like something thats common sense-ish to me. And if its not you'd learn real quick when you got a 50k check when you were expecting a 400k check or something along those lines. It'd be a one time mistake for me & I think most people outside of emergency situations.Yeah of course it falls back on the fighter but a lot of times these fighters just don't know and that is a problem as well. Oh yea agree with you there. I don't doubt most guys are probably break even or lose promoters money vs the few who make them money. So I get promoters wanting some means to protect themselves also.Promoters do put themselves in the Red to try and build these fighters up into stars though so yeah they should make their money too since they're usually putting up all the money to organize events
I just think promoters are more apt to step over the lines of fairness much more often then a fighter is going to end fleecing a promoter by asking for money that he never pays back. I mean how often do we hear of a promoter suing a fighter for money owed. Promoters either get their money back via that guys fights or simply cut him loose & considers it the cost of doing business in boxing I bet.Comment

Iman was a pretty good amateur. I'm sure he coulda did better than Don King. He was 93-11 & came in 2nd in the US Olympic Trials losing to Errol Spence twice.
But you have a point with guys more desperate for sure. If no one is ringing your phone Don King calling isn't looking quite as bad I bet.Comment
