Having a strong fighting tradition instills pride in that tradition, and also confidence that you, as an individual, have what it takes to compete with the best.
That's what the so called "fighting blood " of the Mexicans, Gypsies, or whoever, really is. Tradition, pride, and confidence, not genes.
