Comments Thread For: Ruiz-Joshua Rematch: Sanctioning Bodies Won't Stand In The Way

While little can be done to alleviate the concerns of those who feel boxing has missed out on a heavyweight superfight, the good news is that the titles won't be any more fragmented than is presently the case. The industry is still reveling in the amount of attention generated from Andy Ruiz's historic 7th round knockout of Anthony Joshua this past Saturday at New York City's famed Madison Square Garden. Ruiz (33-1, 22KOs) became the first-ever boxer of Mexican descent to lay claim to the heavyweight throne and will have the chance to defend his multiple titles without interference from the sanctioning bodies.

    Good.

So then the Ruiz vs Joshua rematch winner can take care of a mandatory while the Wilder vs Ortiz winner fights Fury, and then we can finally get the winners of those two fights in the ring.

I wonder who paid off the sanctioning bodies
Did the ABC’s of boxing get a panic attack
Or maybe they were just knocked out in sparring sessions

They all know what they’re doing.

Next news: Al Haymon won’t stand in the way of the venue of the rematch and the flat fee Ruiz is getting, lol.

Was thinking today .... would Ruiz get a big pay rise in the rematch or would the pay already have been set ?

He deserves big bucks after that fight ! Wonder if the rematch clause had a venue in it too ?

Rematch is risky as hell for Joshua . Hopefully he pulls it off

They’re saying the rematch clause he signed is $12million.

That’s enough money to buy tacos, burritos and snickers for 10 generations.

The rematch purses/percentages when a rematch clause is present are predetermined.... as in they agree to all the finances for the rematch before the first fight takes place. Otherwise, the guy who pulls off the upset can just ask for an unreasonable amount of money to get out of the rematch, which would make the clause pointless.

However, the rematch purse is certainly going to be for much more than Ruiz earned in the first fight. Wouldn't be surprised if Ruiz picks up 10million+.
