Since it was his US debut, Joshua was trying make a statement and impress the the American Audience (I think he was trying to compete with Wilder as well).

AJ had his man hurt and uncharacteristically went in for the kill, swinging for the fences. Ruiz recovered well, slipped punches and caught AJ with a counter left hook. AJ should of been more patient and used his jab to set that right hand up when Ruiz was still hurt but he went buck wild and it cost him the fight.

Makes you wonder if someone as chunky like Ruiz can beat Joshua, who else in history can beat him? Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Vitali? Wlad was not that far from getting the W either.
Bro vitali nore wlad is beating Joshua. Not even prime. They are tall stiff and slow. The type of guys Joshua likes to fight because it suits his style to a tee. They are eye range to Joshua and stiff not a lot of head movement so Joshua would have it easy with his bombs the brothers pot shot for the most part no real combos..... Frazier holyfield tysons are a nightmare for Joshua's style. A prime Lewis would be a nightmare because although Lewis was tall he wasn't stiff and had decent head movement and threw combinations.

41 year old Wlad came close. The fight was close on the official scorecard at the time of the stoppage. And Vitali is better than Wlad. Both have a very good chance in their prime.

No one took Ruiz's chin into account. Ruiz took some shots that have ended every fight Joshua has had until now and he kept coming. There was no plan B

Didnt fight to his advantages. Wanted to make a statement in his U.S. debut. Stunned by a left, 2 right hooks behind the ear. Equilibrium all off.
            Lost fair and square
