He was amateur national champion and represented mexico in a lot of international amateur tournaments.
He debuted in Mexico, he trained in México...
That's the reason why he is friend of boxers like Valdez, Cuadras, Abner, he was part of the mexican amateur team.Comment

Look, I get it. And I'm even happy Ruiz won. It tells a story that anything is possible and looks are deceiving. But.....Ruiz is NOT MEXICAN!!!! Stop that sh@t! Is he of Mexican descent? Sure. Does he probably still go to Mexico to visit family, etc? Sure. Does he eat Mexican food regularly? Definitely.
But those things don't make you a Mexican. When you are born and raised and campaigned your amateur career as a US American........
you won a fkn belt for the USA!
End of story. If not, then take all your new money, hop back south of that border where you lose that security and do something positive down there. Otherwise, stay and be a proud US American & hold that sh@t down man.
I guess his parents are Mexican, but born in the US (some say he was born in Mexico though) he has US citizenship, and as he represented Mexico in the Olympic trials, probably dual citizenship.
He does not speak Spanish very well though they say, but that is not essential, he could still identify himself as a lation/Mexican.
If his family is from Mexico and he has dual citizenship, sure he can call himself Mexican? And in boxing terms, he fought like a Mexican. That does it for me at least.Comment

But he's not in any way Mexican. He's an American of Mexican descent.Comment

Boxing Goat...
Please breathe, please. Catch your breath it’s ok, remember to breathe.
Whoever you are, you seem very triggered and upset that the heavyweight Champ of the world is a Mexican. I don’t know why that would upset you so much to furiously blast your keyboard with a thousand comments a minute (hyperbole) just because another man says he’s proud of his own accomplishments and proud of his culture. You made comment, after comment, after comment 6:01, 6:02, 6:04 etc etc, with no one else in between. Please chill out for your own health. It’s not good for your heart to allow yourself to be that emotional over another mans own self view.
Just breathe.Comment
