Steve Rolls is not that bad - change my mind

Hey I get you bro. You just enjoy discussing boxing, and NSB provides a nice platform for that. I can appreciate you introducing various angles of subject matter, while not giving a rip about how you know some of these dudes are going to come at you. Looks like you don't need anyone coming to your defense, but pay no attention to the derogatory remarks and unnecessary personal attacks that litter these threads.Seriously though - you can't refute that comparison so you try and name call lol. If that makes you feel better be you
But the fact that Rolls beat and KD Nicholson, who tied Aleem, who was basically as good as Korobov/Charlo...I mean that says something. The guy is not that bad imo. That comparison proves it.
I watched most of those clips, although I admit it was a tad boring. I suppose it does appear he fights pretty decent on the inside, from what I saw. Though the "punchers chance" can never be ruled out, I think the weightiest data that you've received is about Rolls literally having just ONE scheduled 10 rnd bout in his career.
Even if he's not as bad as the peanut gallery claims, you can probably understand why the public would make a stink about GGG making this kind of fight. Imagine if Manny Pacquiao was trying to sell this. Yeah that's two different careers, but GGG is still viewed as "one of the GREATS of his era" by a significant percentage of fans.
If the premise behind your thread is attempting to legitimize Steve Rolls as a GGG opponent, I think the evidence still falls a bit short, despite your logic. I suspect you agree that even if he is closer to a top 50 middle weight, some criticism by fans looking for a big fight, is justified.
But hey he's in charge of his own career. His team took this fight for a reason (as many said). You know by now how people are going to react on social media, no matter what the narrative is. One thing for sure, you are a bona-fide boxing fan willing to mix it up with any and all callers. Peace.

Angry people make inferences, and then claim you're the one making inferences. This is merely a tuneup. No one will ever hurt GGG he has iron chin. The only upset would be GGG looking bad because he's over the hill and it goes to a decision. I'm looking forward to the fight because I wanna see the Champ fight. He was never outclassed or in trouble and should not have had his title removed for not destroying Canelo.Thank you - just was doing some research on him and I can't see anything to suggest there are 76 or whatever number guys ahead of him at MW. I didn't immediately see anything in footage or his resume to suggest he was as bad as people are making him out to be.
If GGG is still 80% of what he was then this will still be over in 4 rounds imo, but I always like a guy that had a good amateur career and Rolls had that. And it's boxing and GGG is ageing so a man always has a puncher's chance, but yeah I am not saying Rolls is a sleeper at all.
I just didn't uncover anything in my search about him to indicate he was that bad. Even if GGG walks through him I would like to see Rolls in against someone else decent at MW.
He can box, stays in good shape, and is a pretty good athlete. He looks better than Wade or Hugo Centeno imo...not that that comparison says a lot. He looks like a top 20 at worst to me, maybe on the level of a Culcay.
Canelo gets disputed victories and they make it sound as though he's the best since the Queensbury rules and is P4P best. Now that's idiotic. GGG actually does better in the same fights and he's a fraud. That's wacked.Comment

If you claim to be as good as GGG has claimed of himself and go from fighting Canelo twice (and saying you won both times) to fighting a club fighter whose only fought a 10 round fight once ever in his life...that is very poor decision making.Good point about the age and rounds. He did look to fatigue a bit against Leatherwood so in part for that reason I don't think he will go the distance with GGG. Again GGG is getting old though so he could always get caught, it's boxing.
Lol dude I don't give a fu.ck about Steve Rolls. Just was watching his film and looked at his resume and he isn't as bad as people are making him out to be imo. I feel I provided some good points there but I know you have to hate on GGG at every opportunity so be you bro!
Steve Rolls is a worse opponent than Vanes. GGG outdid himself in that respect, somehow, but he managed.Comment

Thanks bro - very nice post. Yeah definitely not a fan of the fight. I don't mind a light touch every now and then for a fighter but I would much rather see GGG in with Andrade or another top guy. And many would argue Rolls is worse than just the usual 'light touch' anyway.Hey I get you bro. You just enjoy discussing boxing, and NSB provides a nice platform for that. I do hope Rolls performs well for his sake but otherwise I am ready to get the fight over with and on to a good matchup for GGG.
In bringing up Pac-man - interestingly I actually feel like this is a similar match-up - pre-fight at least - to Pac vs Horn. I see why Pac did that fight though - it was a big exposure/event fight in Australia for Manny and he was a superstar trying to extend and expand his brand in a way. GGG doesn't quite have that same 'excuse' here imo.
I know many feel Manny was robbed vs Horn but I am one of the guys who felt Horn fought well there and had no issue with the results in that fight. Just serves as an example for me that anything can happen - and sometimes taking the 'easy' route can come back to bite you.
I don't predict Rolls to do as well as Horn did, the size advantage Horn had was his big edge and Rolls won't really have that. But then again I gave Horn no real shot going into the fight, and didn't really know much about him.
But thanks again for your post man - I appreciate your kind approach, while at the same time being willing to mix it up on the ideas and debate.Comment

Completely agree with the bolded part my friend. It's odd in a way to see the pfp lists and the fawning over Canelo - and in everything I saw in those 2 fights GGG was quite clearly the better man, no disrespect to Canelo. He fought well but he just wasn't quite as good as GGG.Angry people make inferences, and then claim you're the one making inferences. This is merely a tuneup. Like every time I see Canelo over GGG on the pfp list I just smile lol. I just think, 'yeah that's not really what happened though.' A shame his star has fallen in a way because, well, we know how judging goes in boxing in some cases.
And on top of that many people on here do not keep it real with what they see in the ring, and are eager to slight or prop up certain fighters depending on personal preference.
But hey what can ya do. All we can do is be honest with what we see in the ring and so far, as you said, and I've seen nothing but great performances and wins from GGG in the ring, which is impressive.
I don't feel quite as bad for GGG as I did for Kovalev when he was robbed...at least GGG is getting big-time money for the theft. But yeah it would be nice imo if can have one or two more crowning moments to end his career. He has earned them.Comment

Honestly was never really a thread about GGG - was more about Rolls and him being better than the 100 rating or whatever that he was labeled with.If you claim to be as good as GGG has claimed of himself and go from fighting Canelo twice (and saying you won both times) to fighting a club fighter whose only fought a 10 round fight once ever in his life...that is very poor decision making.

I don't really understand all the hate on the Vanes decision as well. To come down on GGG for that seems a little biased imo. Late notice replacement with a name, after your opponent pisses dirty, to keep the date.
If Vanes looked terrible I would agree that it was a bad pick but I've watched Vanes a lot and he literally looked like the same guy he always has. He just got run over by a truck. If he was doing well and gassed late or something I would agree that it was a shame he didn't get a full camp or was rusty, but I don't really understand the over the top hate on that pick at all. Seems very biased imo.
But yeah Rolls is not the fight we want to see with GGG. I don't think he can do what Horn did and 'shock the world' but I don't think he is the 100th best MW in the world either. Seems like a decent fighter but nothing to indicate he should be fighting a top MW yet imo.Comment
