da hell who thought Nunn would beat him ? Maybe a young Roy but not the 2000 lightheavy roy your talking about. -
All Roy fought was southpaws .Originally posted by Zerwas1In my opinion Joe Calzaghe would have won against Roy Jones because of his southpaw stance. He didn't fought well against Tarver because his left hand is much better than his right, which was neutralized.Comment

Originally posted by JuicyJuiceWell, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Many people felt Nunn and Eubank could of beaten him, even though they had losses on their records and weren't getting any younger.
Not sure about Nunn or Eubank but we'll never know anyways because it was Roy who did not want those fights. His talent was glorified fighting B level opposition when he should have been fighting the best. Roy's legacy will always be questioned because of the fact he avoided so many fighters outside of the United States.Comment

Does the UK not own planes ? they could have came here to fight him just like he said .Originally posted by Vanilla GorillaNot sure about Nunn or Eubank but we'll never know anyways because it was Roy who did not want those fights. The 2000 Jones was way past his best, his prime was 154-168.Originally posted by THE REAL NINJAda hell who thought Nunn would beat him ? Maybe a young Roy but not the 2000 lightheavy roy your talking about.
Many people felt Nunn was the guy to beat him, can't you remember??
Nunn was the most talented fighter of his era, ahead of Whitaker and Jones. Admittedly, Nunn was nowhere his best when he was Jones' mandatory, but he was planting his feet more and hitting harder and still had enough in him to give Jones a much tougher test than any of the other guys he was fighting.Comment

Personally, I think that's what seperated him from someone like Ray Robinson, Marvin Hagler, or what have you. It's a bussiness and it's their lives, sure; but the potential for greatness is not enough to be considered great. Bert Sugar has him placed somehwre i n the 90's for the top 100 fighters, and it's a shame.
He could have even stayed at heavyweight and unified the division. I am sure he could have done that and saved us all this grief.
His ability was amazing, I just regret he couldn't or wouldn't show us more.
the names
I think he would have beat most of these potential fights a few years back.
Holyfield (I call for Roy)
James Toney II (I call for Roy)
Lennox Lewis (not sure, actually)
Chris Byrd (Jones)
the Klitchkos (not sure, but lean to Jones)
Steve Cunningham (not sure)
Chris Eubank (I call for Roy)
Nigel Benn (i think Benn might win, tougher version of Griffin and Johnson)
Steve Collins (he beat Benn and Eubank twice, flew across the ocean, went to rj's house and asked for a fight with a 60-40 split in the US for jones, and turned him down, but not sure who win there either)
Hopkins II (not sure really)
Vassily Jirov (Jones)
Michealzewski (Jones)
Calzaghe (not sure)
Mclellan (not sure)
Tyson (Jones)
Graciano Roccigiani (jones)
Mcallum earlier (Jones still)
John David Jackson (not sure)
Frankie Liles (who gave jones a standing 8 count in the amateurs, still Jones)
Terry Norris (jones)
I'd love to have those fights on dvd wouldn't you? I'd have settled for even a third of them...
