  • Comments Thread For: Canelo's Promoter Caught Off Guard By IBF's Mandatory Order

As previously reported by BoxingScene.com, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been ordered to defend his new IBF middleweight world title against Sergiy Derevyanchenko by August 4. The Mexican star defeated Daniel Jacobs on points in Las Vegas on May 4 but has already been told to make a mandatory defence after the International Boxing Federation (IBF) sent a letter to Golden Boy Promotions.

I mean this is what boxing federations/organizations/councils do. If a fighter has all the titles and there’s all different #1 contenders u need to get him to support ur title somehow. Doesn’t mean this could t blow up in their face.

I really wonder if the IBF got a bribe or are they just being cogh blockers
            Especially making Derevyanchenko the mando
I guess we’ll know when Sergiy accepts/refuses step aside money if their was a bribe

I mean Deryvanchenko is pretty good so I've not got too many problems with the order from a pure matchmaking perspective, but he already challenged for the IBF title against Jacobs in October. He's had one fight since then (Jack Culcay) and he's already mandatory again? How does that work?
