    What exactly is hand speed?

it sounds like one of those boxing terms that people use and do not know what they mean when they use it.

They see some fast hands that dont hit hard and say thats hand speed.

They see another guy hit with a hard punch and they say its not hand speed but a power punch.

Thing is some people are just light hitters, so that means they will always just have "hand speed" even if they really sit down on their punches and go for max power?

What is hand speed what do they mean by that?

Just someone thats fast without any power?

When I look at exercises made by a coach to increase hand speed its just generic exercises for speed which tells me no one has a fcuking clue what hand speed is which is what I suspected

Power punchers can have hand speed as well. Hand speed is just how fast a fist goes from a fighters guard/ stance to the target. Like in the Williams Hurd bout, Williams was the harder hitter but also had the hand speed advantage. But it’s just anyone who’s hands are fast at reaching their target. Canelo, pac, even wilder are hard hitters with hand speed. While guys like Spence, Mikey and AJ are power punchers but they won’t have that “hand speed”. Don’t get me wrong, those guys would be super fast against average joes like me lol.

In a nutshell it means hand to eye coordination; Clean, accurate and combination punching to be exact. They are well timed and accurate punches that lands. It's the opposite of having fast hands where a guy can throw an eight punch flurry and land none of them.

                  speed creates power

it comes down to fast-muscle fibers

and yes, you can train speed..... no question about it

no idea why people say that you can't

guys with slow twitch fibers, or less developed fast twitch, will never be as fast as real speedsters
