Okay, but again I don't get how Sky can put pressure on Eddie or put Eddie in a position to "reveal" his ultimate intent like you're suggesting.

I think Eddie is in a great position right now. He's got a situation with Sky in the UK so if his US ship gets sunk or DAZN cuts him lose he's got something to fall back on. And if his US situation starts doing better & DAZN starts killing it &/or entering the UK & threatening Sky's business he can ride that wave.

I imagine if push came to shove right now he's riding & dying with DAZN, assuming that 8 year deal is legit & its not a 2 year deal & he can be bounced after 24mos. But if DAZN doesn't start catching fire in a few years & the US run is doing subpar & he still gots the Sky situation I imagine he'd just call it a nice attempt at the big time worldwide & go back to Sky if he can opt out of the 8 year deal or after 8 years has played out.

I don't really know the UK scene, but I doubt that Sky Sports will let their airwaves be used as the emergency backup in case DAZN doesn't jump the way Eddie expects it to jump.

And its not like this is all one way action, although granted it does sound like it has been as of the last year with the DAZN deal coming into play, but its not always been that way. Eddie has given value to Sky in the past. Thats why he gots the position he does with Sky.

I tend to doubt this is as volatile a situation that results in Sky being forced to put Eddie into a position to make an early decision. If Sky fires Eddie & this DAZN thing goes south & Eddie comes back into the UK with his A game talent again whoever gets his services is gonna be a more legit threat to Sky's continued success in sports.

And lets be straight clearly Eddie has better brand value than anyone in the UK currently & maybe ever cuz who the f#ck has crossed the pond in the way Eddie has or even had UK fans as excited as they are currently about boxing? Idk that anyone has, but I'm not a UK guy so I'm probably not the best person to answer that, but I do know Eddie was the promoter who got me tuning into more UK fights as a US guy.

Whats the upside for Sky in risking that relationship with Eddie to hurry up & hire Ricky Hatton Promotions or Hennessy or some much lesser promoter today or soon? I don't get it.

I remember that press conference. Wilder didn't show (no idea why not) and of course the fight didn't happen.

Briggs was past his best, but he wouldn't be first the heavyweight to pose a threat behind his salad days. I think it would have been a decent "old lion vs young lion" scalp and would have at least put his name on the map.

Whether Haye would have taken the fight is up for debate, but Wilder should at least have been pushing for it imho; a big name and a healthy payday to boot.

The physical advantages he has over Jennings makes it all the more baffling as to why he didn't pursue the fight. It's a winnable fight against a name opponent which is textbook prospect material.

Only time I can think of when Jennings/Wilder would have happened was when wilder was already champ. Jennings lost the eliminator against Ortiz. Before wilder had the belt, Jennings was the A side. He was the one challenging Klit and was higher up the rankings.

I can’t remember why Wilder/Chisora didn’t happen. I know frank jumped the gun for the presser but I don’t remember what happened. I’m sure someone will fill us in.

I don't know who Sky Sports will turn to, but they'll go somewhere; remember that Eddie Hearn was originally the darts guy who looked to big up Audley Harrison before Sky Sports bet on him.

With Sky Sports, generally speaking, goes Team GB, and there's no doubt in my mind that someone would step into the spot (had no idea who the Poxon Sports guy was, but apparently he's got a good reputation, can stage a quality show, and Haymon seems ready to bet on him being the UK operator for the ITV deal).

As long as the talent is there, and the talent is drawn to fighting on Sky Sports, Eddie Hearn is less important than you'd think.

80% of the 2020 GB team, 80% of the 2024 GB team, and an operator who gets the basics right, Sky would be okay without Hearn.

No it has been confirmed that the funds were there and available though. Joshua literally turned the offer down because he said he preferred to fight in the U.K. Instead. Had he agreed in principle or verbally; Then the contract would have been drafted within hours for him to sign but he refused to.
