Koncz: If Pacquiao Returns, Crawford Not a Thought - Never Was!

Last week, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank revealed to BoxingScene.com that he was holding an October date in Las Vegas for a the potential return of the Filipino star. A working date of October 15th at the Mandalay Bay has been reserved.

Two of the possible candidates to fight Pacquiao, according to Arum are WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford and former four division world champion Adrien Broner.

Crawford returns on July 23rd in a unification with WBC champion Viktor Postol at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Broner last fought in April when he stopped Ashley Theophane in nine rounds.

Koncz did not deny the possibility of a fight with Broner, but he clearly states that Crawford (28-0, 22KOs) is not in the running and has never been in the running for a Pacquiao fight.

“We have not agreed on anything yet, he has been very busy with his Senatorial duties,” Koncz told scribe Mike Woods. "I will not make comments until authorized by Manny. We have not agreed to anything and if we fight again Crawford is not even a thought and never was.”

And while Spence is not a concern and Terence Crawford is an unmentionable, Keith Thurman, the other elite 147-pounder on the scene, is also, apparently, not a frontrunner for Manny’s attention. Instead, at least according to Fernandez, Danny Garcia is the go-to opponent if Manny can’t get Floyd.

Pacquiao knows who are the best WWs, and both were available! Spence vs. Porter should be announced soon, but Crawford has nothing! Again, Thurman is "most proven!" Just be happy with that!

Out of the 4 (Thurman, Spence, Porter, and DSG), Thurman was the least impressive! I did say that he was the most proven!

but if that is the case, since you're assuming manny went with the safest route, then why didnt he pick mikey garcia???? you still cant answer this but you keep trying to point out that thurman had a bad performance and that's how he got the fight with pac. and danny actually looked worst, danny fought who again??? you see, if pac was looking for the safest route then it would have been with guys like danny g and mikey g. you cant have it both ways!!!

He didn't pick Mikey b/c Mikey lost!!! Danny looked worst than who? Worst than Mikey? Worst than Thurman? WOW! Anyway, we might get to see which Garcia is the real deal @ WW:

Thanks to Pacquiao's willingness to fight Thurman -- a likely $20 million or more guaranteed purse certainly helped convince him -- the red-hot welterweight division will remain that way for the time being. The Pacquiao-Thurman winner almost certainly will go on to face the winner of a unification fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Shawn Porter. That fight hasn't been announced yet but it is almost certainly going to happen in the late summer/early fall. There is also the prospect of another fascinating welterweight fight between former titlist Danny Garcia and Mikey Garcia -- no relation -- the latter of whom probably will remain at welterweight despite his lopsided loss to Spence in March.

These are all excellent fights, even if boxing fans aren't getting the one most want to see in the division: Crawford-Spence. Crawford is the only one of the top 147-pounders not with PBC. But at least Pacquiao-Thurman, Spence-Porter and even the possible Garcia-Garcia are outstanding alternatives to that mega fight not being made right now.

We know Bob is a snake, and I'm sure Manny left him over money! But it's not about Crawford. Even before Manny left, he was asking for Lomachenko @ 140, but not Crawford @ 147! There's a reason for that! I'm proud of Manny for fighting Thurman, but he was not the best available! Sorry if that hurts your feelings, but it is what it is! Enjoy the fight! I certainly will!
