  • Comments Thread For: Pacquiao vs. Thurman: Neither Boxer Can Afford a Loss

As recently reported on BoxingScene.com, eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman will fight for World Boxing Association welterweight supremacy on July 20. Pacquiao, 40, is coming off a January victory over Adrien Broner that took his record to 61-7-2 with 39 knockouts.

a loss does nothing to Pacquiao at this point, even less the loss coming from Thurman

The only thing it would do to Pacman is bring him one fight closer to retirement.
He will still get the biggest fights and the best money in the division even if he loses.
As for Thurman I think it would really affect his confidence and determination to rebound, esp. If its a devistating loss.
I know it would be Thurman only liss but I don't think his heart and mind are in it still if he loses this.
So my opinion is a bigger fight for Thurman than Manny.
BTW I think Manny edges a close decision on this one.

Will be rooting for Pac man in this fight.

Thurman should be favourite in this fight but did not too good in his last fight,

I see Thurmond winning, but like everyone ahead of me here states there is only an upside to Pacquiao taking this fight. Win, and his legacy just grows and his marketability for another fight is even greater. Lose, and you widen your bank account and not one bit of legacy is tarnished as this is a tough fighter. Pacquiao could still pick a fighter after a loss, hit a nice PPV paycheck as a farewell fight, and go out on a win.

Thurmond needs an impressive win if he wants to be "the man" at 147. Even a close win may be damaging, as he is fighting a 40 year old who has been in wars and should be beatable. It is way riskier for the younger fighter here who truly is not young enough to play around.

Alexander Bes***** is coming to take out both of these guys if not this year then next year for sure. Of course if they will not duck him.

Unless Thurman really is shot then this is probably the end of the road for Pacquiao.

No shame in that though, he's surprised me in his most recent run of fights. Not out of the realm of possibility that he can pull this one off too.
