    • J-Rock/Hurd and Berchelt/Vargas were the fights the fans deserved last week for Cinco de Mayo insted of the Canelo/Jacobs snoozefest.

Porter fight could tell us more though. But one thing going for Spence is it will be a short break from his last fight so he won't have to cut as much weight. Fought March 16, and will be fighting August 3rd so 4.5 months from his last fight opposed to almost nine months from O'campo to Garcia. He's not staying at 147 longer than probably mid 2020 though.
Well he's never had the greatest reaction time anyway. he's a fast fighter but not very quick. Which is why I wouldn't favor a fight against the likes of a Canelo..

I also get the sense that he may have over trained for that fight. He's known to train really hard. At some point at a certain age these fighters need to learn how and when to take it easy, especially when cutting that much natural weight u can over train quite easily. He's already in his prime so the muscle memory is already there.

          He definitely over trained.

There was an interview of him after one of the press conferences leading up to the fight where he said the look in Garcia's eyes when they made eye contact shook him so much that he went straight to gym and sparred 18 rounds straight.

If he kept doing this every time he saw Garcia or every time he thought about Garcia I can imagine that he must have really overtrained.

You could count on one hand the amount of clean/flush shots he took against Garcia. His defense was very sharp and he managed distance very well.

He could have over trained but I think part of that is he had a lot of weight to cut for that camp. Spence looked HUGE in some of those interviews before the fight. I do think having a 9 month break from the prior fight didn't help. Spence looks in better shape heading into this camp. If the snap still isn't there this fight, then he is just over growing the weight class and needs to move up soon. Porter will be more aggressive than Garcia and give Spence plenty of opportunities to get his power shots off so let's see how he looks.

              • Those two warriors left it all in the ring. Great fight with a clear winner.

I hope Hurd can evolve his style and learn some new tricks to up his defense.

I'm ready to see JRock vs Harrison/Charlo winner.

I also wouldn't complain if they ran this fight back.

                • This was an awesome fight!! It was great to see two guys put it all on the line and both guys showed major heart. Julian Williams just executed his gameplan perfectly. He ****** when necessary then boxed in certain spots and it was beautiful to watch. He did enough to keep Hurd off his rhythm and exposed the flaws. And then you had Hurd getting off the canvas throwing bombs and landing some good shots on Williams and just when Hurd would get going Julian would slow him down. It was just great action and you hate to see either guy lose but Williams just wanted it and you could see it. I think he learned from that loss and came back stronger and better and smarter in the ring!! Great stuff!!

                  • I bet Hurd will fight Charlo now that he doesn't have his belts. But one thing I saw in Hurd is that early on in the fight he was slipping punches and countering well. But then as the fight went on he just stopped using his defensive tools. So he knows how to protect himself but he just doesn't stick to it since he's been getting away with it. Now he knows that he can't rely on just using his size to wear down opponents there are other ways to win. And if he gets his defense together he'll be back. Hopefully he learns from it. I still want to see Charlo-Hurd!

Yeah I agree with that gotta see how he looks vs Porter If he doesn't look good even in a win there's no need for him to over stay his welcome at 147 waiting on Thurman who is a natural WW and will likely be a 147 his whole career.

J Rock vs Spence don't sound too bad.
