Their tune changed when they agreed to the ridiculous low ball flat fee of 15 million and Hearn reneged. At that point, they made a decision, as a team, to refuse to be jerked around any longer. Plot a course as if Joshua didn't exist, build leverage, and refuse to entertain a Joshua fight until Joshua's side was ready to be:

    #2 - Fair

DAZN's offer was serious, but it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair because while Hearn would benefit from DAZN landing the two fights, it's a disservice to the fighters to put the two fights on DAZN when they'd make so much more money from PPV.

Demand for Wilder's services dramatically increases every time he fights now. Joshua doesn't have the same room for growth that Wilder has. Joshua's not going to crack the US market on an app nobody has against opponents nobody cares about.

So now it's a waiting game to see if DAZN drops Matchroom next year or not.

Kinda seems like wilder’s team is banking on Joshua gaining popularity in the US, otherwise there’s not much point in stalling out until next year. The idea that wilder’s side suddenly picked now as the breaking point for where they won’t be “jerked around” anymore doesn’t make all that much sense. I mean, they just received an offer for by far the most $$$ wilder has ever seen and even took the time to meet with dazn...which is more than they did with Hearn. I think they’re trying to see how marketable the hw division is going to become in America...they see a potential upswing and don’t wanna sell wilder short. I’m not sure dazn is gonna continue throwing that type of money around tho, so they better hope the fight does land on ppv.

On the flip side, one could be forgiven for believing that wilder’s team never had any real intention of fighting Joshua...they were just using joshua’s name to gain publicity and they are trying to maximize that before cashing out.

No, they're banking on DAZN opting out of their Matchroom deal.

The problem is matchroom and dazn have long term contracts to show content in several different countries. Just because the Americans aren’t necessarily interested, doesn’t mean subscribers in other countries aren’t.

Well it’s not like Hearn has got absolutely nothing going on. Either way, dazn isn’t gonna continue to throw this kind of money at boxing. They’re just trying to make noise out of the gates...they will go back to treating boxing like the niche sport it is.

The only fighter he has that HBO and Showtime wanted is Joshua. That's why it's so critical that Joshua fight on DAZN/ If Hearn allows Joshua to fight Wilder on PPV, the DAZN deal is as good as dead.

It's not Skipper's deal. Skipper has no reason to keep the deal. It was struck before he took over. It's a horrible horrible deal for DAZN and if they're smart, they'll opt out the second they're allowed. They have Canelo now. Why would they pay 125 million a year for Maurice Hooker? Doesn't make any sense.
well any business person who would sign a massive contract in hopes of someone convincing guys to jump ship, wouldn't be too smart...I feel like there's a little more to it than that. they definitely rolled the dice tho, which is common for a new product trying to break into a market. I'm not sure why they'd invest so much in boxing period. I personally don't subscribe, but if I watched the nfl, mlb or any significant soccer league, I would since dazn has the rights for all that in Canada. most people I know that have dazn, signed up for nfl and don't even watch boxing.

Which is why almost everybody involved in that deal has been fired already. That deal pre-dates Skipper. Done by incompetent people who have since been replaced by Skipper's guys.
