  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Canelo Demanded 170 Weight-Clause or No Fight

Eddie Hearn, promoter for Daniel Jacobs, explained that Canelo Alvarez demanded a clause for a second day weigh-in - or there would be no deal for their three belt unification. Jacobs weighed in at 160-pounds on Friday, but he was a shade over 173-pounds on Saturday morning.

It was very savvy on the part of Canelo’s team, it’s the sort of thing Mayweather Jnr used to do very smart. There would often be some kind of weight or glove brand choice or whatever little ‘one up’ he could score before the fight started, it gets in fighters heads and Canelo has been in the game a long time now, he’s using his knowledge of the game.

Jacob's accepted the fight. STOP with the whinging!

The rules apply to both fighters, and both fighters accepted it. Move on with the excuses!

This is to equal the playing field and very acceptable because Canelo is now the smaller man in this one!

He woke up the day of the fight and weighed 173..... Man it would be nice to bring back same day weigh-in so people fight in their respective weight classes

I look at it this way: Canelo charged Jacobs an extra million dollars in exchange for Jacobs to have a bigger weight advantage than his last opponents. Nothing to see here.

I also don't expect to see Canelo using rehydration clauses against mw opponents now that he knows it doesn't matter. If he does though I see it as nothing more than him exercising his right as IBF champ to use Ibf rules or not. If you think its being a diva consider this,in non unification fights its a mandatory Ibf rule & was only removed from unifications to make sure fighters don't gain an unfair advantage over the IBF champ.
