I look at it this way: Canelo charged Jacobs an extra million dollars in exchange for Jacobs to have a bigger weight advantage than his last opponents. Nothing to see here.

I also don't expect to see Canelo using rehydration clauses against mw opponents now that he knows it doesn't matter. If he does though I see it as nothing more than him exercising his right as IBF champ to use Ibf rules or not. If you think its being a diva consider this,in non unification fights its a mandatory Ibf rule & was only removed from unifications to make sure fighters don't gain an unfair advantage over the IBF champ.

IDK, why this is relevant now? Jacobs didn't obey the rule and now he has to pay, not only he didn't obey the rule, he wasn't able to do anything against Canelo. Why everyone is hating on Nelo on this one. Pacman did it to everyone he fought with, from super feather weight to junior welter weight. and no one complaint, same with Mayweather, how much was he paying on the JMM fight for the weight? or how about against Canelo? When canelo was at 154lbs everyone cried that he was a weight bully that needed to move up now canelo is the smaller fighter and jacobs is the weight bully but it’s cool now cause jacobs would have the advantage and not canelo. You’re also calling canelo a coward cause he wanted an advantage but what does that make jacobs? When he could easily fight at light heavyweight but chooses to fight at middleweight cause he likes that big size advantage

I agree with your general argument that there should be no catchweights or weight control clauses in championship fights. Having said that, I saw no indication that the the weight clause had any real impact on the outcome. Canelo was just much better than Jacobs. No more weight-bullying though, for sure. Its a fair criticism.
