Comments Thread For: Golovkin Hires Johnathon Banks as New Trainer

No, that's what lost him the fight. He's the bigger puncher and the naturally bigger man facing someone who's had stamina issues in the past (and looking to fight your fight), yet he opts to retreat and jab with no body attack. As you yourself mentioned he started doing better when he started being aggressive and played to his strengths. The problem with GGG is he remained uncertain on his identity as a fighter because of his limited experience against top opposition in tough fights.Comment

There just isn't enough speed at a certain point to throw the body punch in the normal flow of a fight without it getting blocked and countered by the faster opponent before your hands can get back. At this age, the only way safe route to the body is to engineer the punches from the ground up in training camp. "When Canelo does this, you can pin his left arm and get a hook in to the body here, then spin off here. When Canelo does this, you can dip down to the left and get a short hook in to the body, then bring your left hook back to guard your body in a cross guard while your back hand slips to the front of your face to block the straight counter as you watch for the left cross hook to the open side of your head, the one area left open, so you can slip under it if you have to.
**** like that. Counters to Canelo's known tendencies. Inside tricks to safely get in a body shot before holding. Other clinch attacks Canelo hasn't seen. Jab feinting from the outside to open up a straight right to the body from the side so you can bounce out without being countered.
Free shots. Tricks. Tactics. It has to be engineered by someone with a real brain, and a real thirst for knowledge. Papachenko I trust could have come up with some ****, like Bill Belichick trick plays in the NFL would be a good example. That's the only way you're going to get Tom Brady a receiving touchdown. That **** ain't going to come just by lining him up as a real wide receiver and having him run a WR route tree. He's too slow, you have to engineer that ****. Same with old GGG. And what reason do any of us have to believe that Johnathan Banks is that type of brilliant boxing mind?Comment

After 24 rds with Nelo, GGG suddenly forgot how to fight
This shlt isn't about getting a better trainer. It was a financial move. Unabel would still be there if he weren't greedy.Comment

I don't like the move. Banks is unproven, and I don't like that they're same age. Golovkin won't take his advice as he will question banks credentials and experience. I think he needed someone he can easily respect.
Although Golovkin never had an issue with respect, so if he really likes banks' instructions he may listen to him. I dunno.Comment

Sanchez lost 4 fighters in the past few weeks or months, he obviously isn't doing that good of a job. ggg is a finished product by now and doesn't need much in the way of a trainer, just a good set of eyes that can see whats going on and articulate adjustments.Comment
