Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Lara Beat Canelo; Evident He's Had Southpaw Troubles

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. Daniel Jacobs couldn't help but smile Monday when he was informed what Canelo Alvarez claimed recently about boxing southpaws. The Mexican superstar stated during a conference call last week that he hasn't had difficulty when he has fought left-handed opponents. Jacobs, who'll square off against Alvarez on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is among those that disagree with the WBA/WBC middleweight champion's comments about his history with southpaws.

Alvarez is not 5'9, More like 5'7 and maybe 5'8 on a very good day.

Jacobs got the analysis right. Alvarez has bad lower body movement and he can be tagged well by a mover and jabber. Just keep moving. Alvarez will try to hit the body in the 1st half of the fight but if he is getting tagged by a jabber you affect him in 2 ways. Force him to move and we know he has stamina issues and punish him while taking no punishment. Don't give him a rest.

I hope Jacob's comes to fight on May 4th and not just show up to play it safe the way Lara did...
I mean Jacob's has been telling anyone who'll listen for the past two years that he would stop Canelo if they ever fought so now is the time to back up all that woofing he's been doing,.....

I don’t get how people go around saying lara beat canelo but at the same time say canelo lost the first golovkin fight

Jacobs might be right, but he is nowhere near as slick or defensively sound as that Lara was though.

If Jacobs thinks he can emulate that peformance...why not? Might be a good gameplan to switch to southpaw and use his reach and legs. Move around the ring and fight in spots. Throwing alot of body blows as well and change up the attack unlike Lara. That way he might be able to make Canelo look bad and that is the goal.

Lara didn't beat sht. Once he felt canelo's body shots he gave the fight away by using excessive movement

Not sure I get your analogy. Those were stylistically 2 separate fights.
