    Predicting the downfall of loma

I've been watching Loma since his debut and as of his last 4-5 fights,I have been getting this feeling that he may end going the way of Roy Jones Jr. Both Jones and Loma are boxers that rely heavily on their freakish athletesism and reflexes. It's a high energy, high movement style which requires incredibly hand and footspeed. Their mentally is "why block a punch, when you can avoid it all together". Unfortunately, this style doesn't transition well when the fighter starts aging. While the mind still knows what to do,the body and reflexes of an aging fighter simply can't keep up with the commands. Loma is 31 right now,and I'd say he has until 33-34 years old when we see the machine really start to rust. Add this to the fact that he is prone to injuries and inactivity,we might get a scenario in which a younger fighter (tank,Lopez) waits out Loma, and takes him out in dramatic fashion. Hopefully I'm wrong, and Loma uses his high boxing Iq and switches up his style like mayweather did in the latter part of his career,to compensate for him slowing down. Feel free to discuss.

Well, Lopez for one isn't trying to wait him out. He wants that fight NOW. Before he moves out of the weight class forever.

True,he's been really vocal about it,but will the bobfather really want to throw Lopez in there with Loma that early? He's risking the kids momentum getting shut down. After all we live in an age where the 0 is protected at all cost.

It seems that's what everybody is hoping for. Loma has way better understanding of fundamentals than Roy Jones. Loma never does outlandish things that you're not supposed to do as a boxer but that you get away with because of your athleticism like Roy did. Roy was probably more talented imo, but Loma is technically more skilled. Everything is measured with him. He will slow down, but not nearly as much as Jones imo.

I agree. If Bob is smart and wants to build another star for his stable he will keep Lopez away from Lomachenko. The kid hasn't even fought any top level guys yet, nevermind one of the best in the world.

Lopez will make his name at 140 with guys like Taylor or Prograis.

It would benefit the development of Lopez as a fighter to get in with Lomachenko now, win or lose.

If he wins his confidence shoots through the roof. If he loses then his boxing IQ gets a free lesson and an upgrade at a very young age.

Look how good Canelo got after losing to Floyd.

If the kid wants it then the promoter shouldn't get in the way.

In an ideal world,we'd see people testing themselves as soon as possible, but not all promoters are that confident in their fighters. I think Bob might lead Lopez north to 140 maybe 147,maintain Loma as his lower weight superstar, and try building a "megafight" between Crawford and Lopez maybe 2 years from now.
