Loma never saw a Mexican pressure fighter. Doesn't work in amatuer fights.

Salido wasn't as washed up as Arum and his matchmakers hoped. He came to fight and not lay down. He was determined to derail the hype train. He made Loma his son. Loma will forever call him Papi.

lol Saldio lost to rocky. Would could have had the rematch at 130 if he won but Loma had to take care of the guy Salido went to war with. Could have had the rematch again instead of Marriaga but Salido didn't think 750k was enough lol. He knew what would have happened in the rematch.

The Salido fight was unique for a couple of reasons.

Salido was/is a cagey veteran who is very crafty. He also does what it takes even if that means crossing the line...punching thighs, low blows, rabbit punches, holding/wrestling/grappling, holding with one arm while punching with the other, raising forearm to opponents face, etc...anything to "throw off" his opponent.

Laurence Cole was the referee for the fight and his track record is HORRIBLE. Dude has been in some very, very dirty fights.

If you go back and watch the fight today...you'll see Cole literally moving/holding Loma's glove WHILE in an ACTIVE grapple..thus giving Salido a chance to hit. And Salido did indeed punch on those occasions. It was honestly insane to watch

Loma is a very refined fighter, but hes a boxer first. He operates within the RULES of boxing. Similar to Floyd he seems to only get rattled when his opponent is allowed to fight dirty without there being a precedence for cheating tactics.

An example with Floyd would be Ortiz or Hatton. Either of those fights couldve evolved into Castillo 1 fights if those guys were permitted to do whatever they wanted to win...and that's exactly what happened in Maidana 1.

Maidana is not a special fighter at all, but let him blatantly low blow (without so much as a warning), tackle, attempt to knee (like full MMA knee), rabbit punch, hold with one arm and hit with the other..and all of a sudden Floyd is extremely uncomfortable and doesn't operate like normal.

This is why refs are so important. They usually only matter when one guy has that "cagey" reputation, but noteworthy refs who have a reputation for NOT enforcing/upholding rules are Cole and Weekes

Pedraza who went forward and stalked Tank, Crolla who pressured Linares, Marriaga who gave Valdez hell and pressured him along with Walters.

Why cant other fighters do that?
Salido was able to back his ass up and forced him to fight off the back foot where he is least effective. He can't turn those combinations punches over for power while backing up and fighting off the back foot.

That's the blue print to success right there. Why other fighters never attempt to replicate it I will never understand. Even Gary Russell, Jr had some success against Loma while backing him up.

Salido is the Papi and would've sonned Loma again. They should've paid Loma's conqueror/Papi what he was worth. He wanted to quit his Uber side job and be a full time Papi to his son.

But does it matter at this point? Lomachenko already moved far past that level. We all saw what Lomachenko did to Roman, and that was the day we all realized a Salido rematch was worthless.
