Yeah he got stopped by Joppy , but Duran was an old man by that point, so no point in even discussing that fight.

How impressive would you say Hearns win over Duran was?

Very impressive, even if Tommy's one of my all time favourites.

It goes without saying how impressive it was. Duran was coming off a spirited effort against the bigger Marvin Hagler and competed very well in that fight. Hagler took over late that got him the win but Duran was right with him. So Duran was not washed up or close to being washed up at that point.

Hearns was just a force of nature at 147 and 154. Really, hardest match up in the history in those two weight classes arguably. I know SRL beat him, but if they fought 10 times, Hearns probably wins 6 or 7 of them. Damn near impossible to out box, killer jab and right hand but just didn't have a great chin. If he did? Could have been the perfect fighter and would be looked upon as the best of that era, instead of the 4th best from the four kings.

Yup a really solid effort vs Hagler, plus wins over Davey Moore and Pipino Cuevas the year before as well.

Duran was never treated like that before or since. Hearns bullied and annihilated him.

Duran didn't train for the Hearns fight, there's even reports that he weighed over 20 lbs 1 week before the fight. Basically, he's was partying like an animal and didn't take the fight seriously.

Duran claims he was not in top condition for the fight. Basically mailed it in. Despite that, I would say it's still an impressive KO and you can't take that away from Tommy.

See, this is what is always used for Duran when he loses. He lost to SRL in the rematch? Well, SRL didn't give Duran enough time to train and caught him off guard! Even though the rematch took place five months after the first fight. Now, he gets sparked by Hearns, and it's the same thing. Duran didn't take many training camps "serious" and always liked to party, so why are the excuses just used when he lost these fights? It's okay, he lost to two ALL TIMERS and he's still widely recognized by most as a top 10 fighter of all time.

You obviously know little of Duran’s career a lot of people consider him the top lightweight of all time What if they had p4p rankings back then when he jumped up and beat an undefeated 25yeR old Leonard 147.He also beat Davey Moore for 154 And an exciting victory over Iran Barkley for 160 tittle.Gave hagler a tough fight no matter what your opinion was on the scoring the judges had Duran winning after 12 rounds.

Some of these excuses I’ve never heard .More bull**** is spread on this site Duran pulled a no mas and claimed a stomach virus or bad food never said anything about short training camp. This was a lame excuse but what the hell.

We have to remember that Duran-Hearns fight took place at 154, a weight class that Duran's body was not accustomed too since he came up from 135, his best weight class was 140.

Here's my opinion for Duran-SRL 2 - it had nothing to do with weight, Duran was in fighting shape, its just that Leonard didn't want to fight and ran so Duran said **** it, I'm not chasing this runner.
