Comments Thread For: Barclays' Yormark: Wilder Biggest Boxer In U.S., Joshua Unknown

Brett Yormark's unique understanding of the New York sports landscape assures the CEO of the company that operates Barclays Center that the market can support two heavyweight title fights scheduled within two weeks of one another. The first of those two events, headlined by WBC champ Deontay Wilder and mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale, will take place at the Brooklyn building Yormark operates May 18. The subsequent heavyweight championship match in New York, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champ Anthony Joshua against Jarrell Miller, is set to take place at Manhattan's famed Madison Square Garden on June 1.

This may be true but why does Joshua continue to live rent free in these guys head? These guys can't do a interview without mentioning the guy across the pond! So who is to blame for Joshua making 10x the money per fight than Wilder? If Hearn is such a scumbag, why does his fighter makes so much money compared to Finkel's Wilder? Maybe, just maybe, Hearn is not such a bad guy after all and maybe Wilder's handlers are the bad guys!

Wilder vs. Miller in NY would out sell Joshua vs. Breazeale in NY.

          Breazeale has no fan base.

You would hope this true on home soil, bigger star by far is AJ. Wilder is not packing stadiums and is barely known at all. He's better known as some loud mouth classless lady's on TV's boyfriend or whatever lol. Once AJ comes to town like Fury he will take over too and keep making boatloads more money while Wilder turns down the biggest payday he was ever going to see.

              He lost me at

“New York is the biggest sports market in the world,” Yormark said. “There’s no question about it. Just like there’s nights where the Nets and the Knicks play, and the market is big enough to support both of those events”.

Dare say that wouldn’t even make it the biggest sports market in the US, let alone the world. Just off the top of my head, Manchester, when United and City play at home would attract a combined crowd of over 120,000... then you might have a boxing sellout at the MEN Arena on the same night.

Then you’d have London with Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, West Ham... plus Twickenham, Lords for Cricket, York Hall etc.

In America, promoters have figured out that in most instances, you make more money in an arena with high prices instead of trying to fill a stadium. The major markets like Vegas and New York, there'd be no reason to run a stadium no matter how big of a star you are. Did Mayweather pack stadiums? No. Because there's more money to be made NOT packing stadiums.

As for Wilder being "barely known," he's had multiple fights on FOX & NBC that did millions of viewers, he's Showtime's biggest ratings draw, he has 1.7 million instagram followers, stars on a popular reality show, is one of Barclays' biggest attractions, did over 325,000 buys for his first ever PPV, as the A-side, with an opponent that had never done PPV either.

So if by your definition Wilder is "barely known," what active US fighters are "known" in your opinion?

When it was looking like Robbie was going to lose the bet, he panicked and canceled the bet. Repeatedly stating he wouldn't honor the bet and that the bet was canceled.

                    So why should I leave?
