He didn't fight Proksa until July of 2012. Nobody gave a **** about him before then and really didn't even care about him that much after Proksa either. From 2010-2012 like I said, it was all about Martinez vs Chavez and Mayweather

Golovkin was basically a Kanat Islam at that time. He had the WBA regular title, was fighting all around the world and hadn't made his US debut. The definition of a high-risk low reward fighter. I remember rumours about Sturm and N'dam wanting nothing to do with him. Sergio Martinez wasn't a cripple yet between 10-12 but neither he or Chavez Jr. had any incentive to fight him.

I know Pirog was top3 in the division after beating Jacobs and he signed to fight Golovkin but he had to retire from that camp and boxing due to injury.

But what about the rest? I only started following boxing seriously after Maidana beat Broner so I don't know.
Sergio Martinez, the crown holder, Duck King. fought nobodies and folks were getting wet from him. His only legit fights were against few opponents, and he Lost them, like the true p4p duck he was. He ducked Gennady. and before fighting Miguel, in order to interest more ppv buyers -he tried to look professional, classy and humble by doing guess what? going to the hospital, where kid was about to die from cancer. he was kids' idol, but judging by the video he really didn't give a single F8ck about him and wanted to get out asap. very very cheap from him. that pissed me off a lot. "Look guys, im doing good things in the world" ****, if you do something good dont be bragging about it. martinez is cheap, on top of that he rocks in women's clothes, claiming he is straight and not gay. give me a break. glad his ass retired by Cotto

Loeffler tried to get GGG a fight with Martinez in Argentina in 2012.

"Golovkin and Loeffler made it clear that they wanted a fight with Martinez, but DiBella made it clear that there was no way that he would allow Golovkin anywhere near a ring with Sergio. Lou DiBella put it as only Lou DiBella could:

“At 37 years old, he is going to fight the biggest possible fight. Who would give a flying ****, and why are you even asking? Who knows Gennady Golovkin other than you, me and a few other people? How many people would he bring to the table? How much money would he generate? He is the last guy … He is a very good fighter, but it’s a fight that economically makes no sense.”

A lot of people alluded to it already. GGG was a rising name internationally and was starting to generate buzz here during that time. But Martinez and JCCJr were stars. Martinez ducked GGG but he was old and looking for big money fights to cash out so I don't hold it against him. JCC Jr was rumored to be interested in a fight but he was also kind of a flake and had all kinds of out the ring issues that hindered his career.

I believe if Martinez was healthier and closer to his prime, he would have fought GGG, win or lose.
I believe that too. Martinez was a warrior no doubt. Its too bad his knee gave out. I enjoyed watching him. Before he fought Cotto he had surgery on his knee twice. Suffered a broken hand, and a huge cut in the Chavez fight. Yeah he ducked Golovkin but he was at the tail end of his career and Golovkin was just ascending. The timing was bad for that fight to have a real chance of being made.

DiBella is right. GGG was unknown and brought nothing to the table at the time, ala some of GGG's own ducks later. Risk/reward first.

Sergio Martinez was the man at 160 after he beat Pavlik, put Paul Williams to sleep and gave Chavez jr some pasting during that stretch. GGG on the other hand was an up and comer KO artist at that time and was straight up ducked by Martinez and Sturm imo.
