For those who followed boxing during 2010-2012. GGG, Martínez, Chavez

Were there any discussions between Martínez or Chávez jr to fight Golovkin at that time? Were they even interested?

I know Pirog was top3 in the division after beating Jacobs and he signed to fight Golovkin but he had to retire from that camp and boxing due to injury.

But what about the rest? I only started following boxing seriously after Maidana beat Broner so I don't know.

sergio martinez straight up ducked ggg. his promoter lou dibella even said they were avoiding ggg because he was a beast. sturm ndam martinez and others shamelessly ducked ggg.

Nobody except for a few very fringe hardcore guys cared about or knew who GGG was. All the talk was about Martinez fighting Chavez or Martinez fighting Mayweather at 154 or 160.

Martinez wanted no piece of Golovkin. I give Martinez the benefit of the doubt though as he was old, had bad knees and wanted big paydays to close out his career and GGG wasn't as well known at the time. That's why Martinez wanted the Chavez and Cotto fights.

I believe if Martinez was healthier and closer to his prime, he would have fought GGG, win or lose.

How old were you when Martinez was around and making headlines in Argentinian news? You got into boxing when Maidana vs Broner came around yet you've been critical about Ward vs GGG...

that's false! GGG was destroying guys on HBO his fight with proska was his usa debut in 2012. sturm had been avoiding him for years in germany. GGG name was ringing bells. boxing fans knew about him and he quickly became even more popular shortly after his HBO debut.

Sergio Martinez came out and said he was too small to fight Golovkin. When he was calling out Floyd and Pacquiao, people said, "why not step up and fight Golovkin?" Sergio said himself he's too small. Weird but true.

Was about to ask him the same question .
Either Alot of the posters are young or New to the sport . Which is strange because everyone on here thinks they sound like an expert .

And to answer the question . Martinez was chasing a money fight with Chaves Jr at the time . He took some damage after the Macklin fight and looked as if he was just chasing money fights ( Cotto , Chaves ) .
