It wasn't that he was "scared" to get countered, it was just that he didn't want to give Canelo the opportunity to, because that's what Canelo is good at. He tried to defuse and disarm Canelo, that was the gameplan he chose.
He thought that would be the formula for victory, but it ended up backfiring heavily because Canelo's approach to the fight completely countered Golovkin's strategy. Then when Golovkin tried to switch it up, it got even worse for him. Canelo had too many tools in his arsonal. The best thing Golovkin could do was keep jabbing because Golovkin has an A+ jab. It won him rounds, but the problem is that it just wasn't enough to win him the fight.Comment

He was reduced to all jabs in both fights. His right arm might as well have been a paperweight. Could have kept it in his dressing room.Comment

I think it's more stylistic.
Canelo is a counter puncher and GGG is a pressure fighter always coming forward. Canelo is one of the best counter punchers I have seen. I don't think G could take throwing a body shot then getting hit with a monster KO type hook.
Not like both fights weren't competitive closeComment

He didn't go to the body against Canelo in both fights like he does with every other opponent for the same reason he didn't attack him on the ropes in the first he felt canelo's counter shots and decided it was to risky for his liking he found out canelo is not a geale Macklin wade or a vanes and it made him uncomfortable and hesitant to commit.on top of worrying about counters he had to deal with canelo's defence and feintsComment

This thread is exposing those who understand boxing from those that are just blind followers of certain fighters,
GGG couldn't deal with and eventually refused to try to deal with Canelo's hand speed and countering. If Canelo was slow say like Mikey Garcia, maybe GGG operates similar to the way Spence did but that wasn't the case and he clearly lost the second fight. Spence jabbed effectively like GGG but he eventually started to work off of the jab and controlled the distance much more effectively.Last edited by SweetPbfAli; 03-23-2019, 10:50 AM.Comment

I'm perplexed to. I love GGG but I have to question why he didn't go to the body? That's his bread and butter. I know Canelo has power but GGG does to and GGG took Canelo's best shots. You'd think he'd do a little more work to the body but he didn't. I don't know. Imagine if there was a stipulation on the contract that GGG couldn't work the body like that lol. Naw, I don't thin it's that shady... Or can it be? :/This is truly mind boggling. Mikey Garcia landed more body punches than GGG did in his fights VS Canelo. You read that right; Mikey landed 10 body shots while GGG landed 8 in the first fight and just 6 in the second fight. I will never get over the fact that GGG wouldnt go to the body and I am being serious.Comment

yup, welcome to boxing, where the best don't fight the best and instead call it "marinating" and would rather fight bum after bum, and guys go through hell only to let corrupt judges steal it away from them, got to love it.Elite level prize fighting is not amateur boxing or the Olympics where you expect the judges to just score conservative attempts or just jabs. Canelo never made headlines that he was going to do a jab contest with Golovkin, and the judges wouldn't expect that either.
Canelo focused on body punches, counters, jabs, defense.
GGG just focused on lazy robotic stanced jabs.
Welcome to boxing! And if you want to know what a SRL at Heavyweight looks at throwing a jab and looking graceful with footwork search a guy named ''Larry Holmes.''Comment

The body shots he did throw in the second were much better than in the first fight and much more effective. One in particular he threw to Canelo's liver and it literally moved his whole body. He's opted to go with that chopping left hook to the top of the head instead of going downstairs. If he goes to the body even close to what he used to, he will be very hard to beat, even at this stage. A sustained body attack from Golovkin is too much to handle.Comment
