No idea wy Golovkin forgot how to body punch vs Alvarez.
Here's an AMAZING stat:

What about his coach Abel? Did he insist on more body punches?Comment

neither do MANY Golovkin fans
which is absolutely ridiculous imho
if you have no idea why the fight played out that way..... then you are not qualified to score a fight, and certainly in no position to cry robbery
it is clearly obvious why Golovkin kept them hands at home
the exact same thing happened to Chavez, for the exact same reasonComment

Elite level prize fighting is not amateur boxing or the Olympics where you expect the judges to just score conservative attempts or just jabs. Canelo never made headlines that he was going to do a jab contest with Golovkin, and the judges wouldn't expect that either.
Canelo focused on body punches, counters, jabs, defense.
GGG just focused on lazy robotic stanced jabs.
Welcome to boxing! And if you want to know what a SRL at Heavyweight looks at throwing a jab and looking graceful with footwork search a guy named ''Larry Holmes.''Comment

Well Canelo is a great counter puncher and is much faster then GGG.
GGG didn't want to get countered. Simple. GGG worked off his jab and though tthat would win him the fight, but he ended up coming up short. Close, but it wasn't enough. He clearly lost.Comment

It’s not simple??? It’s a fight and you’re gonna get hit absolutely no way around it. I refuse to believe that GGG was “afraid” of getting countered. I would love to know his explanation...Comment

Canelo is not as open as spence, and he's much scarier with the counters and speed that he has. That said I did think golovkin could have looked for body shots more. Maybe he sees those jabs landing so well he thinks he must be banking the rounds. But he's not landing many power shots on canelo anyway, he even had to make his right hand shoot like a jab.Last edited by SplitSecond; 03-22-2019, 06:51 PM.Comment
