If after the fight he does not want to negotiate to fight Joshua this year, then we can call it a duck perhaps.

But how things are now... it's not.

All wilder kept crying about and his fans is he didn’t fight Whyte as aj was not next

Guess what aj was next here and he would have got 3 or 4 times what showtime is paying him for Breazeale on dazn

But wilder ran, he ran to Shirley

I think there were probably 2 reasons why DAZN wanted to screen Wilder vs Breazeale before the 2 fights with AJ.

First and foremost, Wilder vs Breazeale in May followed by AJ vs Miller on July 1st would have been the start of the build up and publicity drive for the AJ/Wilder unification fight.

Second, they possibly viewed the $20million fee for Breazeale as a sweetener for Wilder, to make the overall package more attractive. $20million is nearly twice what he earned from the Fury fight. It's a hell of a good offer for a low key mandatory defence!

Yep. It doesn't kill Joshua-Wilder but everybody was champing at the bit to cry about ducking.

Yeah but maybe showtime will pay him 5-10M to fight this mandatory and then he can negotiate 40M for the first fight with Joshua, being the A-side in case he wins.

Nahhh **** that im calling it a duck now. To be honest ive been calling it a duck for a year. Although it is a fair point that Wildes facing Breazeale next either way so lets see what happens after that. But listening to them talk yesterday they were talking about going their own direction again, they cant wait to distance themselves from Joshua or negotiations at every given opportunity. To me it just seems really obvious what game they are playing and we can see from Wilders resume he is a protected fighter, 35 fights before we started getting half acceptable opposition. Says it all.

What’s going to be more interesting is if Whyte gets made mandatory. Would Whyte allow it to go to purse bids knowing DAZN/sky sports would bid big money - and probably ESPN too. How would showtime etc compete?

Wilder would be forced to take on Whyte or AJ in that scenario

Correct, and the main thing here is Wilder is not going to be locked up to a network deal that will prevent the Joshua fight from happening. Finkel said even if he signs a long term deal with SHO, they will have outs on the contract that wouldn't prevent any fight from happening.

Wilder is banking on obviously beating Breazeale and then putting the Joshua fight on PPV and thinking he can get more than 40M. That's a risk, but it can be attained if the PPV does around 1.3M buys at $85 dollars like Canelo/GGG rematch. The split will have to be close to 50/50 as well but I don't think that's going to be a big issue.

I wonder how much Wilder is getting paid for this fight. Can't be just 5M after the offers from ESPN and DAZN. Has to be over 10M, but how much of that is SHO paying and how much is Al paying him?

The rush to sign would be to get him on Dazn platform should he lose to Breazeale it still keeps the Joshua fight alive and he makes more then 500,000 K after that a fight on the Dazn platform . I really don't think he gets by Breazeale so all this is going to backfire anyway , don't tell me it can't happen , I'm a boxing expert and Wilders taking an L in May .
