Peter wins regardless of what shape Toney comes in at PROVIDING that Peter himself is in good shape. This fight is more or less in Peter's court. If he's in good enough shape to throw enough hard leather to the arms, shoulders, chest, stomach etc. (and believe me, he will be training for this fight plan, or should be) to break the vastly smaller Toney's will, he will win. If he comes in fat and head hunting, he has much less of a chance.
I'd also like to see what kind of jab he's capable of. He and his men should be working on that as Rahman was most successful in their fight when he employed his jab on the outside, put Toney off balance by actually landing on him, and then stepped in to throw "power" (difference is, Peter will actually put something behind them) punches.
When he's not punching inside, Peter needs to tie up Toney's arms and push him around the ring. Lean all over him. He is more than twice as strong as Toney, and he will quickly wear him out as Rahman did, through mauling and wrestling. When your opponent has a weak flabby body and middleweight bones and joints, take advantage of it.
Toney's opponents often foolishly allow Toney to take the fight places where it benefits him (Guinn trading on the inside with Toney for example, or Rahman giving Toney openings when he's on the ropes when he should have stepped back and kept to the jab). Peter needs to keep the pressure on at all times and concentrate on landing on Toney, anywhere he can, rather than go for accuracy. He's never going to hit Toney flush so he needs to pull a Marciano and use those bone crushing punches in a way that befits the description. He needs to hit Toney wherever the hell he can, and then some.
If he's in shape, it will work.Comment

And what makes you think Peter hits harder than Rahman?Comment

Originally posted by DiegoFuegoLOL I can't believe anybody is giving Peter a chance. Peter is tailor-made for Toney. It's a big dumb fighter with no stamina and no boxing ability vs. a small, iron-chinned fighter with a defense that ranks among the best in boxing history despite his age. This is such a one-sided fight it's almost laughable the way they're promoting it like a big 50/50 fight. If Toney comes to fight in shape then he wins easily.
If Peter starts headhunting then Toney will counter punch him all night long to a UD.Comment

Toney by comfortable decision. People will be loving the way Peter beats on Toneys arms and body early. He'll begin to tire in the 6th. Toney pitches a virtual shut-out over the second half of the fight...battering a tough and proud Peter in the final half.
This fight makes me sad in a way, because these are probably my favorite heavyweights right now. From the press conference I watched, I was glad to see Toney was actually complimenting Peter a bit in his own weird way...calling him a champ and saying he's a tough fighter. He really only promoted himself and ran his mouth off at Peters handlers.Comment

it really does come down to toney's weight in this fight.
under 220 lbs I see toney dominating peter. with toney at the rahman weight, i see peter overwhelming him. james wont have the movement required to stay away from peter like he would at 215 lbs. for all of peters shortcomings, he is strong as a bull and will simply kill a 237lb james toney. he will walk right through him.
i really believe that. it's really simple james. get in shape and win or come in a lard butt and get rightfully stretched out.Comment
