thats the problem. there's a good chance toney doesnt come in shape and he's not getting any younger. thats why I think peter has a chance in this fight. sometimes youth and strength can overcome great boxing skills and experience when a fighter is getting old and showing sings of breaking down

Peter wins regardless of what shape Toney comes in at PROVIDING that Peter himself is in good shape. This fight is more or less in Peter's court. If he's in good enough shape to throw enough hard leather to the arms, shoulders, chest, stomach etc. (and believe me, he will be training for this fight plan, or should be) to break the vastly smaller Toney's will, he will win. If he comes in fat and head hunting, he has much less of a chance.

I'd also like to see what kind of jab he's capable of. He and his men should be working on that as Rahman was most successful in their fight when he employed his jab on the outside, put Toney off balance by actually landing on him, and then stepped in to throw "power" (difference is, Peter will actually put something behind them) punches.

When he's not punching inside, Peter needs to tie up Toney's arms and push him around the ring. Lean all over him. He is more than twice as strong as Toney, and he will quickly wear him out as Rahman did, through mauling and wrestling. When your opponent has a weak flabby body and middleweight bones and joints, take advantage of it.

Toney's opponents often foolishly allow Toney to take the fight places where it benefits him (Guinn trading on the inside with Toney for example, or Rahman giving Toney openings when he's on the ropes when he should have stepped back and kept to the jab). Peter needs to keep the pressure on at all times and concentrate on landing on Toney, anywhere he can, rather than go for accuracy. He's never going to hit Toney flush so he needs to pull a Marciano and use those bone crushing punches in a way that befits the description. He needs to hit Toney wherever the hell he can, and then some.

If he's in shape, it will work.

the problem with your prediction is your stating things he'll do that he hasnt shown to be capable of

I'm sorry to put you on the spot, but how do you think every other heavyweight has fought Toney? By hitting him in the arms on the ropes. Guess what? It doesn't work. And outside of a jab, the only time anyone can land punches on Toney in the heavyweight division IS against the ropes, so Peter doesn't really have a choice. Toney is going to sit on the ropes all day and nail Peter repeatedly. This fight will not be close. Sorry, but if this "strategy" you've come up with works against an in shape Toney, I will be shocked as hell.

And what makes you think Peter hits harder than Rahman?

IMO Peter has a decent chance to pull off an upset because of his sheer size, youth, and punching power. I think if Peter conditions himself right and comes into the fight with good stamina and the right strategy then he has a good chance of knocking Toney out. His strategy is gotta be, to put all his weight on James, wrestle him around, and concentrate on punishing the body in the early rounds and tiring him out until he can unload on him in the later rounds.

If Peter starts headhunting then Toney will counter punch him all night long to a UD.

Toney by comfortable decision. People will be loving the way Peter beats on Toneys arms and body early. He'll begin to tire in the 6th. Toney pitches a virtual shut-out over the second half of the fight...battering a tough and proud Peter in the final half.

This fight makes me sad in a way, because these are probably my favorite heavyweights right now. From the press conference I watched, I was glad to see Toney was actually complimenting Peter a bit in his own weird way...calling him a champ and saying he's a tough fighter. He really only promoted himself and ran his mouth off at Peters handlers.

it really does come down to toney's weight in this fight.

under 220 lbs I see toney dominating peter. with toney at the rahman weight, i see peter overwhelming him. james wont have the movement required to stay away from peter like he would at 215 lbs. for all of peters shortcomings, he is strong as a bull and will simply kill a 237lb james toney. he will walk right through him.

i really believe that. it's really simple james. get in shape and win or come in a lard butt and get rightfully stretched out.
