Curt, I have a lot of respect for you as one of the better posters on this forum but unfortunately I have to say in this instance you are wrong. While I agree that it was through Richard Schaeffer's naivete an inexperience that Haymon used to raid and invade GBP company's talent roster.trust me....he didnt exploit Golden Boy....and it was schaeffer running that company at the time...oscar was running around doing god knows what....
schaeffer just understood that haymons model was the new age way and they had a very good working relationship.....if oscar had just kept his mouth shut his company would be more than canelo and a few prospects.....golden boy was thriving at the time...but he came in and stuck his nose in cause he could and it was his "company"...and got all pissy cause guys werent "signed" to contracts
the fighters prefer al haymons model....and he still has a talented roster...if you dont think wilder is thankful for the position hes in right now youre nuts(also nothing is official so dont underestimate al...he might pull something with wilder yet)
he did use oscars company most definitley....but it was a mutual relationship between him and schaeffer...it kept golden boy very relevant
However, the bottomline is Oscar had no future options on any of those fighters to begin with. It's true, that Haymon took advantage of Richard Schaeffer in that regard, while Oscar was checking himself into rehab while still recovering from substance abuse and it almost ruined his company.
Saul Alvarez whom Richard Schaeffer discovered was GBP only saving grace. The guys that were in GBP stable at the time were not his and did not legally belong to him.
They were solely using his platform on a fight by fight basis just like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. did to to gain authorized fighting status under the GBP umbrella since his company was incorporated at the time.
Remember the smart way of doing business as a promoter or a boxing platform is to get future options on a fighter. Also, to secure him for as many fights as you possibly can in a legal binding agreement.
This way you can avoid them bolting to another promoter and avert a future bidding war with other promoters also. However, Oscar didn't have that which is why most of his stable but three that he actually signed bailed on him.
That's the smart way of doing because Schaeffer's inexperience and naivete nearly cost De La Hoya his company.Comment

i fully understand what went on....all im saying is that oscars company actually had a good thing going then....but oscar had a freak out cause he didnt understand that he was in a unique situation that could benefit him...if oscar hadnt stuck his nose in it and freaked out he may still be benefitting right now....there really would have been no reason for haymon to break up the relationship...oscar basically forced haymon to bolt with his guysCurt, I have a lot of respect for you as one of the better posters on this forum but unfortunately I have to say in this instance you are wrong. it had nothing to do with schaeffer being "inexperienced"......haymon is the most unqiue man in boxing.....he runs careers yet isnt a promoter...schaeffer just realized how unique haymon is and how it could benefit the company by having a relationship with him.....
its reasonable to suggest that the haymon/GBP relationship could still be going strong, TO THIS DAY(lol lil wilder reference), if oscar hadnt stuck his nose in the business that he was willfully letting schaeffer runComment

I have a question for you. How did Oscar freak out and how did Oscar basically forced haymon to bolt with his guys?i fully understand what went on....all im saying is that oscars company actually had a good thing going then....but oscar had a freak out cause he didnt understand that he was in a unique situation that could benefit him...if oscar hadnt stuck his nose in it and freaked out he may still be benefitting right now....there really would have been no reason for haymon to break up the relationship...oscar basically forced haymon to bolt with his guys

The proud father, Oscar De La Hoya, grabbed his phone to display a vacation video of his 19-month-old daughter standing atop swimming pool tile in Puerto Rico.
heres just one article you can check over to find out the story...of course this is from oscars point of view....try to take out oscars obvious bias here and remember schaefer has his side too....but if you check it out you can sort of get the idea/pictureComment
