Why cannot top fighters meet in the ring ?

I have been brought up mainly on amateur boxing and have a limited knowledge about nuances of professional boxing, thus, excuse my naivity and/or ignorance. I still cannot see the reasons why the best boxers cannot meet on the ring if both sides want it.

OK, I can understand that boxer A avoids fighting boxer B because he is afraid to lose and, by means of various methods he delays the fight or even makes it impossible. It is called 'ducking', yes ? But this is the only situation I can understand.

I cannot understand a situation where both boxers really want to fight and really want to show to the world who is the best of the two. They both are rich enough so that the way the money is split is of secondary importance. They can also agree easily to set a neutral place of the fight (Kinshasa and Manilla came to my mind LOL) so it is also no serious obstacle.

So what are the true reasons ? Enlight me, please.

its all about milking the fans for as much as they can! look at pbc they have the more fighters than any other promoter yet look how we always have to way awhile for the top pbc fighters to fight each other.

No it isn't. To most pro fighters money is the most important thing.

Thanks much for both answers. So it's about money, huh ? Well, as said, I cannot understand it, at least in case of the best fighters who have already won enormous money. If I am one of the two top boxers it means I am very very rich and instead another extra Lambo or helicopter I would prefer to show to the world that I am the one who is the best. Mind you, I am not talking about fighting for nothing, but just letting all the talks about splitting not small at all money go.

          Money bro

Most of the time both fighters make enough money by fighting scrubs and they are happy with it! They view Low risk and a decent reward as a better thing than High risk and a high reward

Boxing is about prizefighting. So, unlike other sports -- at least in America -- boxing doesn't have a real system for pitting the best against the best. As a fan, you only get to have arguments about who is the best.

Who is the best heavyweight right now? Well, there's absolutely no way of knowing empirically. You can make an argument for any one of three guys. When will Wilder and Joshua fight? No idea. Whenever people can negotiate, maybe. Someday. We'll see. Tyson and Wilder had a draw -- will they fight again? No idea.

Who is the best welterweight? Same thing. You can say Spence, or Thurman, or Crawford, or somebody else. They don't fight each other, so we have no way of knowing.

Football, basketball, MMA, every other sport has real champions. So yeah, boxing doesn't really deliver that.

You know the real reason? FANS.

Fans are to blame because they're willing to keep spending money on watching their guy beat up stiffs no matter how much they complain about it.

Title belts are the same. Everyone says belts are meaningless blah blah but as soon as a fighter they like wins one then suddenly they're happy to pretend it's really a world title.

As long as people are happy to keep buying sludge then the promoters will continue to serve them sludge. Why wouldn't they?

They can, when two fighters want it
, it happens. But fighters hide behind their promoters to avoid fighting others. I dont blame them really because some are making millions by fighting weak opposition and passing eyetests and fans will defend them, look at tank davis, youve literally got fans on here bragging saying he 'can fight who he wants and get paid' and calling lomachenko a begger. He got millions to knock out a scrub in one round. If u lose that 0 a lot if fans will leave u.
