Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Trainer: We're Following Mayweather Blueprint

Gervonta Davis fought just a single time in 2018. Both Davis and Mayweather Promotion's CEO Leonard Ellerbe expect their fighter to have a much more active 2019 campaign. He was supposed to face Abner Mares on Saturday night but had to settle for Hugo Ruiz who took the fight on short notice after the former three-division champion was forced to pull out of the fight with a detached retina. Tank blasted Ruiz out in the first round of their Showtime televised main event.

Absolutely you are on track with ducking all real threats until the 'right time' .....except.....

You will never be a star because you have zero personality and even less speaking ability.

Gary Russell is not signed for a fight with anyone at the moment and a win over Davis is a pretty big deal. Plus a title is on the line. And what does LSC bring to the table that Tank doesn't?

He’s not though. Pretty Boy Floyd was tearing through the 130 lb division fighting 3+ times a year beating credible guys like Hernandez, Chavez, Corrales etc.
Gervonta isn’t... he’s fighting once a year against blown up featherweights.

The blueprint won't work because there aren't enough faded names for him to build his own record on. Floyd's legacy was all about timing. Davis doesn't have the same crop of washed up or smaller opponents to feast on. Unless he can get all the talent at 126 to move up to 130/135, he will not have the dance partners he needs to be a PPV attraction. No one is going to pay $70 to watch him KO no-hopers.

Mayweather didn't break all records. He only broke the PPV record. Other than that he broke no records. He was never even an undisputed champion.
