    WOW. Great article.

Can't believe they stripped Machado of that title after winning it fair and square

they wanted that tank money so somehow tank vs a guy who had never fought at 130 and was coming off a loss was good enough for not only their regular title but their super title when they already had a champ. every single fight these fake hype champions have could be deemed a title fight. they just throw belts at them

This has gone beyond a joke, and it's a miracle boxing has been able to still produce a great product and spectacle in spite of itself.

This problem is really more than 50 years old when the National Boxing Association split into the WBA and then split again into the WBC.

Even then the problem was obvious. Titles were usually recognized regionally (BBoC, EBU etc), These bodies were European based and focused sanctioning bodies, with North American bodies such as the NBA (1921-, IBU (1911-46) and so on ruling over their patch in the U.S.A.

From the start, there was no established international authority, and the early '60s is when things started to go wrong.

In '69 the NABF emerged, but it wasn't until the early '80s with the introduction of the IBF, then a mere few years later the WBO, and now we have an estimated no less than:

THIRTY FOUR 'world sanctioning bodies' - with fringe organisations like the IBO, WBF, IBA, IBC all trying to get a piece of the action.

What's worse than that is that the two supposedly most recognised and respected bodies- the WBA and the WBC have turned creating boxing titles into something like the stock exchange where products are merely limited only by the imagination.

The WBA has it's interim, regular and 'super' titles (which it has repeatedly stated it wants to reduce via a boxing tourney)-

The WBC has used its imagination to create silver, diamond, eternal, international? and now even more ridiculous sounding titles such as the 'Francophone' title which is a Canadian regional title.

I think every hardcore boxing fan wishes every Christmas for a unifying sanctioning body but it is likely to get worse before it gets better.

The only catalyst will probably be when the value of 'belts' declines so much that they become almost completely lacking in value and demand and fighters will simply become 'prize fighter's' edging out sanctioning bodies from the equation altogether, or - a law enforcement action is bought to bear on the corruption we all know is inherent in most sanctioning bodies forces an amalgamation (which is almost impossible anyway since not all the major sanctioning bodies are based in the U.S.), Also the b*stards enjoy non-profit status which makes it a little more difficult to investigate them for tax fraud.

All I can really say on this issue is ARGH!

It's borderline criminal when you think how hard these guys work, they rely on a corrupt maze of loosely - affiliated profiteering organizations to look after their interests, treat them fairly and reward them accordingly.

IMO the IBF has become one of the worst offenders when it comes to stripping titles, and now has gotten into the habit of deliberately leaving it's No#1 and No#2 rankings vacant in order to profit from hyped up 'elimination' matches.

the worst conduct was surely the stripping of Terence Crawford's IBF belt a mere two weeks after he beat Indongo to unify all five titles.

Next on the list is the stripping of GGG for not immediately facing Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the IBF 160 pound title when they knew he was committed to facing Canelo.

Taking the "super" title from Machado was wrong, plain and simple.

As is having a "super" champion in the first place.

The WBA is just completely full of ******ity all the way around.

The IBF did nothing wrong. They followed their rules, which is the problem we have of other orgs not following their own damn rules.

What does GGG's commitment have to do with anything?

This is the same WBA that let Lara hold his belt for 2 years defending it against Foreman level opponents.
Then when Andrade became available for Lara, they ignored him,
and let Lara defend it against a nobody like Gausha, instead.
When Hurd beat Lara, WBA was demanding a rematch,
even though there was zero outrage on the outcome of the fight.
It almost seemed like they're in collusion with shady Decubas.
